I mean we usually only get one new musical like that per season. 2015 was Fun Home, 2016 was Hamilton. This year was unique in that there were a few, but it's an anomaly. Next season we have The Band's Visit which looks to take that spot and maybe something else will be announced later on.

"After the wonderful seasons with Fun Home,Hamilton, Come From Away, Comet 1812. Why are we getting all these stupid non great musical ideas."
Wonderful?
1948-49 was wonderful. 1950-51 was wonderful. 1961-62 was wonderful. 1963-64 was wonderful. So too, seasons in between and prior to these.
Please, a little perspective when we bandy about words like "wonderful." A little judiciousness as well.
As for the shows mentioned above, a bio musical would certainly provide a more enjoyable and more welcome experience than these.
Here's to more bio musicals.

Until you see them...or at least hear from those that do, how can you judge them?
I don't care for biops, but good for those that do .

Taken from the confirmed for next season thread:
I assume The Band's Visit is cleared from being "bio or stupid."
Let's put Frozen in the middle ground.
One bio.
Two with questionable inspirations/sources.Though Spongebob does have decent advance word from Chicago.
I don't think things are as lopsided as it seems. Perhaps simply the back to back announcements of Margaritaville and Spongebob have people waving their hands and freaking out over nothing?
New Musicals
• The Band's Visit
• Frozen
• Prince of Broadway
• Spongebob Squarepants
• Escape to Margaritaville

Because Broadway does not cater exclusively to snobby elitists such as yourself. Having many shows that appeal to the masses and are lighter fare is a great thing - it brings more people and money to Broadway, and will entice people who otherwise would never see a musical, but will because of this subject (ie, Parrot Heads for Margaritaville), and then while they're there and seeing and hearing other stuff, they might be convinced to check out one of the other shows that sounds interesting, and could become hooked from there.
Also, having something for everyone is always the best option. As long as there's at least one or two shows for the people who enjoy the more "high-brow" stuff, then it's also good to have at least one or two shows appealing to the masses.
Though despite that, I'm always compelled to especially cheer for these "low-brow" musicals to take over Broadway just from seeing the extreme negative reactions from the elitists whenever this happens. Anything that makes an elitist irrationally angry is Good and Holy in my book.

Perhaps if you would spend a little less time on posturing, and a more time paying attention to the world you regret you live in, you would have noticed that half of the "shows mentioned above" are bio musicals. What they are not are vapid and/or infantile shows like those that appeal to you.

"Next season we have The Band's Visit"
Already a bad sign. I saw it off-Broadway. It was dismal and dreary. (Naturally, it got raves.)
Oh, well. Perhaps Spongebob will provide some entertainment. I heard one of the songs, and it sounded jaunty. Considering the music-less music we've had to endure in this season's highly-lauded (almost a synonym nowadays for dreadful) "musicals," I'll take jaunty.

Valentina,
Wise up. Look around.
The elitists have hurt ALL of us.
Now don't swear. Swearing isn't nice.

Thank you Oak2, for bringing a voice os sanity and common sense to the chorus of narrow minded elitism. Especially troubling is the number of "authorities" who are dismissing these shows based on virtually no knowledge of what the final product will be.

Because the masses want Las Vegas type entertainment. Those make more money than something that requires a lot of deep thought. There is a difference between the type of musicals you're talking about, the kind that are smart but still entertain and the egg head pretentious elitist musicals that have zero melodies.
With considerable financial risk to mount a musical, most producers these days are just plain cynical. It's "safer" to create a show with a well known title and songs people know from the radio. It's another example of the dumbing down of America. The Disneyland that is now known as Times Square is so depressing, but sadly, this is the time we live in.

Can we fast forward this thing to the end where After Eight learns the true meaning of Christmas and sings "Seeing You" from Groundhog Day then goes off to Japan to get lost in translation.

If you hate contemporary theatre so much, then why do you continue to see shows? I've done a very good job ignoring your negativity-stained posts in the past, but I just can't on this one. I mean...it must cost you money to see all these shows, right? I'm not complaining about you not liking so many things; every group needs a Simon Cowell. But it's the logic I question. Why continue do throw your money away, when you seem to like 1 out of 20 productions? Why not just stick to revivals of classic shows you like?

Then you've either got to try harder, or save yourself the effort and use the ignore feature.
And to answer your none-too- polite post, I keep going to, and yes, spending money on the theatre for the simplest and most basic of reasons: I love the theatre.
