"Construction on the new musical Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark ? which is scheduled to open in 2010 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre ? is expected to resume Sept. 2, according to The New York Times.
Three people involved in the eagerly awaited production told the New York daily that although modest construction would continue at the Hilton, the fate of the musical was still unknown. In fact, the Times states "that there [is] only enough new money to have a handful of workers return to the Hilton on Wednesday; actors have yet to be reassured that the musical is on, and full-scale work on the multimillion-dollar scenery is still on hold."

"Official" sources say it's a go, "unofficial" say it's a maybe, but work is still resuming. A little.
Does Disney come into play with this at all?
NO. unless they completely kibosh it.
What is "modest" work?
Trying to put the Hilton into some sort of working order? They are going to have to do that one way or the other.
I'm still dying to see what they have done to the place
ok...so until a full cast is announced and tickets go on sale to the public..I'm not getting my hopes up
Tickets are already on sale, aren't they?
I think tickets are only available to American Express gold card members or something like that.
Did they get Michael Riedel's permission to go back to work?

Reidel is such a f***ing snake.
Work on the show was probably halted because Marvel was in the midst of a huge corporate shakeup at the time (being absorbed by Disney). It seems the poor man is going to do anything to sink this show. I have really no idea what drives people's hatred for this production.
Tickets go onsale to the general public September 12th.
I don't want this to fail because I just want to see these sets.

Unless Marvel was actually involved in producing the show (other than a named producer as owner of the property or a small investment), the acquisition should have no bearing on the production.
While Marvel is listed as a producer, Marvel is just licensing the Spider-Man property and has not contributed any money to the stage musical.

I really want this to work out just to see Alan Cumming back on Broadway.
The Hilton would make a great train station
This show will actually open when Lestat is revived & Wildhorn becomes the critics darling

Ok, looking at that article closely you see it mentions constuction work at the Hilton.
I bet you that means they are working to fix up the Hilton so that another show can use that theatre.
They did not write the article saying "actors were told to return to work" or something even remotely mentioning the show is going on.
Constuction work at the Hilton in my mind means the show is over, let's repair the theate as soon as possible before a big lawsuit.
I am amused that almost every person on BWW was worry about this show, especially in THIS economy, yet you have a bunch of theatre pros going on like they will be able to recoup $40 million. Who in the world thought this was OK?
Um....it's WAAAAY too early for the actors to be in regular rehearsals for this show, isn't it. The actors (except for some readings a while ago) haven't begun work yet.
Time will tell, time will tell....
Well Alan Cumming was supposed to be shooting some projections in the next little bit. (according to a recent interview)

The actors may also be in training for the flying. The new flying rig they have developed for this show is supposedly pretty intense. Unfortunately I have heard that Equity really caved on this one and have agreed that the "optional" five weeks of training for it do not have to be paid. The problem here, and the reason I put optional in quotes, is that there is little to no chance that the actors would be able to handle the physical strain of this system on only the one week of training that is paid for, so they pretty much had to take the five weeks unpaid or risk some major injuries and health issues.
I don't like the sound of that ^ and I'm not a working actor.
If it's true: Bad Equity. Bad.
Well I am very glad to hear this just might get it's chance to be seen.
Now that Disney owns Marvel it could have been the reason why things got delayed. Yes, while Marvel when it was its own company did license out the Spider-Man brand to the producers of Turn Off The Dark, that is something that might have changed now that Disney owns Marvel. For all we know, Disney could have wanted to re-work the licensing etc so that they have total control over it. It's possible. Keep in mind that Marvel and now Marvel owned by Disney are two totally different things.

As an independent observer with no particular interest either way it seems to me like this will never get off the ground. I think Cumming is well shot of it, from the ridiculous budget woes that seem to be going on.
