NO. I've really NEVER seen or read a piece where it was "Absolutely essential" to the plot or to the progression of the show? What's next- a musical about "My Son, the Proctologist"?!
Think of the word "imagination" and then shift over to the sivler screen for a moment and picture Rhett carrying Scarlett up thoat staircase- you KNEW what waw going to happen, seeing it was not necessary, but if the same film was made today, she'd be out of her corset before you could say "Tara's draperies". Oh, and let's not forget the briliant direction of Julie Taymor- we KNEW those weren't animals on stage, but she made us use our minds to suspend reality. I'm just saying that there are may ways to present the same topic, and it seems as if nudity is being "used" as opposed to "required or needed", and that should give us all cause for thought. But, as we see so often on these boards lately, people are so quick to criticise others before ebgaging their own brain, so, to each his or her, own tastes.

Keeping it topical, I'm having real difficulties working out if 'Equus' would have had the same plot or even been as effective if it had featured no nudity whatsoever. As you have obviously read a great deal of plays, perhaps you in your great wisdom could rewrite the climax of 'Equus' in such a way that it loses none of its power, but also requires no one to remove any item of clothing at any point.

Posted: 2/26/07 at 7:51amI did some older movies for studios now out of business - Le Salon, P.M., and also Catalina - many others truthfully. Would rather not disclose titles.

As long as it was tastefully done I'd do it. I'd go to the gym first, but I'd do it.
And I'd do anything to be on Broadway, too. lol .

I did it in my college's modern dance concert. I was a Jewish prisioner in a concentration camp. The nakedness really added to the piece and it helped to increase the discomfort of the audience. It really worked.
I think if it enhances the plot, or helps with the mood the director/choreographer is trying to achieve then I'm all for it.

It's funny cause yesterday in my Acting class, my professor said that the musical for next year is probably going to be Bat Boy, and she asked how many of you are going to audition? I rose my hand and a friend of mine raised his, I don't if anyone else did, and then she said that there is a nude scene, and I just put my hand down really fast.
She asked what do you think of that? I said I don't know, but I made the joke, "Note to self, workout this summer", but I think that if I slim down and buff up this summer, and try out for Bat Boy, and get the role of Bat Boy(I'm assuming he's the one with the nude scene), then maybe I won't be as reserved about it as I am now cause no one wants to see me nude they way I am.

Posted: 3/29/07 at 3:10pmI would never do it. Give me an apron and a hat, then MAYBE but I would never do full frontal. Litle children will weep and everyone will be rushing out to the nearest exit! lol.

Wait, Batboy has a nude scene?
The closest it was on Broadway was that Shelley and Edgar (batboy) were in their underwear...
