so is Kerry Butler going to be there for Sunday's show? I just couldn't see the last show without her or Cheyenne, not to mention Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman.

To expand upon what tourboi said early in the thread, I bet that the producers thought that the announcement of the closing date would boost sales enough to justify keeping the show opening for three more weeks. Between the announcement and today not enough tickets were sold to make the following two weeks remotely profitable. Why should they keep throwing more money away and dig their hole deeper?

Do some of you live in a bubble? Many of you have absolutely NO CLUE as to what's going on in the world today. We are going through a financial crisis. The economy is way down and sadly many businesses big and small are downsizing and laying off people left and right. Yes, even Broadway shows and Broadway performers are affected. That is why "Xanadu" is closing. The producers cannot sustain any more losses. Yes, it's messed up they had to push up the closing date and those with tickets for the original closing date are left out in the cold but in these trying times things could be a whole lot worse. Get a refund, move on with your life and be content that "Xanadu" had a fairly good run for a show most people were quick to write off as a bomb. Some of you come off as very spoiled as if you were entitled or owed something.

Kerry has been removed from the Chance Theater promos.

A huge round of applause for Li'l Devil.
The only person on here who's made any sense in the last 24 hrs.
Well done!

...Many people are upset because they bought tickets to what we were told was going to be the final show. When the producers pushed it up to THIS weekend out of the blue, it was upsetting. People who might have had tickets to the original closing date no longer have tickets for the new closing show. Nobody is entitled to anything, but people have every right to be upset.

Thank you Parks. I guess that toad from across the pond already got his dole check today and has time to design clever signs to show what an insensitive boor he is.

It seems that some of our British posters have a problem with Americans. There is a West End Board -- why bother with us Yankees? I suppose because it's much easier to be brave from a distance, righto?

Yes, we are going thru a financial crisis. Yes, the ecomony is bad... However, the shows from now (or lets say, yesterday) until the original posted closing date of Oct 12th, were just about sold out. (or close to it)

So, they close earlier than originally announced, and then blame the economy? Something just doesnt sound right.

I think that is what bothered everyone. Not to mention the cast and crew finding these things out after everyone else !!

The show closing is secondary to all of the other nonsense that has been going on--- at least to me it is.

Yeah, the closing just seems to be happening too quickly, with bad PR. Quite honestly, that is the most important thing in this whole mess, and it was poorly executed. First, the cast and crew should have been told, then you put out the press releases, and then you start refunding people their money. None of this crap where people get refunded before an official announcement has been put out.

Okay, so what you don't get to see the show on it's closing night. Most of you have already seen the show and have enjoyed it, which is great. Be content with that. It's not like they won't refund you your money back. They all tried very hard to keep the show open but sometimes the best laid plans fall through and this was probably their only option. It's nothing personal against anyone it's just what had to be done. Accept it. Get your refund and move on. It makes no sense in getting upset over something that in the long run any of you have any control over. You have to look at the bigger picture is all and be happy that this show at least made it as far as it did and will have a life on tour once the final bow is taken and the final curtain comes down at the Helen Hayes.

All good things must come to an end. It's a good thing it's not gone forever. Here's a video I made combining 2 of the "Strange Magic" versions. One by Darren Hayes (of Savage Garden) & the one from the Xanadu Broadway Soundtrack.

songanddanceman2 go back and actually read the thread before you open your mouth. Wickedboy2 was the one who started this ridiculous crap not Ed. Both of you need to get a life. The only reason you're on this board is to revel in other people's sadness - that is pathetic! Furthermore, learn how to spell please; the correct word you are looking for is being not been.

how dare you try and make out that the brits on here have any kind of problem with the americans

Several brits explicitly said exactly that on the West End board in a thread started by WickedBoy2 in a request for other brits to specifically mock us based on this thread. It has since been deleted at the request of WickedBoy2. Odd, since he seemed so proud of his comments. I would have thought he'd want it laminated and framed.

I speak for myself and wickedboy when i say that i don't have any problems with Americans

You may speak for yourself, but not for WickedBoy2. Unless he wants to start backpedaling and lie about it. He may have had the thread deleted, but that doesn't mean it's truly gone. I'm just letting you know that you might be putting you foot in something about which you may be unaware. But believe me when I say there were plenty of witnesses.

Wickedboy said that the person who made the comment about the economy etc was the 1st person on this thread to make sense in the past 24hrs, that wasn't him acting nasty, that was his opinion, an opinion he is allowed to have without having a load of crap thrown at him for having said opinion.

And we BOTH come on this board as we BOTH work in the industry and like to chat about theatre not revel in peoples sadness ( i have never heard such a ridiculous statement, all for posting on a musical is closing thread). It's not like either of us don't like Xanadu as we do.

Again, maybe not you, but WickedBoy2 did exactly that. I believe the term he used was "hysterical". It was one of the most bigoted anti-American threads I've seen since my days at the original Dress Circle message board (shout out to Tanya and Queen Kate!).

Perhaps because you're not American. I think you would've found last night's thread enlightening. It got pretty abusive.
