Sooo.....
Did Mel Brooks *actually* set these ticket prices? Or are we all just ragging on him as a continuation of "Broadway hates Mel Brooks!" season? :P

$51 is the rush price or lotto seating
600 seats are priced @$451. or $375.00 each ... thats a lot of money

Posted: 6/22/07 at 3:06pmIf you go to www.BestofBroadway.com, you see the breakdown of prices and besides the premium seats for $350-$450, the prices are not ridiculous. The only ridiuclous thing is the amount of premium seats they have. There are only about 350 regular orchestra seats per performance. and the rest are premium. Just my two`cents.

Kicks, that's exactly my issue. I don't care about the price of the premium seats, just the fact that there are hundreds of them. If the premium seats were like the center section in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th rows, I would understand. But it's practically the whole orchestra section.
Billy, where did you hear that about the lottery/rush price?

Didnt they do this for the Producers too, tho? When they were sold out in advance, didnt they have like those $500 tickets that didnt sell? Something like that.

Are they crazy? Who's going to pay $451 for a ticket? Is ther esome sort of race on to see who can charge the highest ticket price? How long until we get to the $1,000 ticket?
Who do they intend to attract? Donald Trump? Every night? There are many more of "us" than there are of Trump.

re: "I think they could cause too high an expectation with prices this high...causing this show to flop in reviews."
I agree, and I really don't see YF matching The Producers success in most ways, but then again, I totally adore Sutton Foster, and won't miss this for anything, but that's just me.
Also, I have found in a few cases, a day before or the morning before a show, they release the premium tickets at regular price. It's worth a try.

Ha! You're kidding, right? $451 is pennies to most Manhattan residents. Manhattan is filled with wealthy people who will drop $1000 for a night out to see Broadway's new hit show without batting an eyelash.
This past year, Lincoln Center gave a benefit reading of THE SISTERS ROSENSWEIG with a semi-starry cast. The Orchestra tickets were $1200 each -- for a reading -- and the Orchestra was filled with married couples. I was up in the Loge in the cheapo $75 seats looking down on the rich folks.
And for those of us that are willing to wait until the last minute, those $451 seats will be released and become available for $121.

Most of the hit shows are selling practically the entire orchestra as premium seating.
===============================
Yes, but most of the hit shows don't have Mel "Evil von HitlerSatan" Brooks involved. And everything he does is wrong and evil and entirely his fault and motivated only by greed, ego, and the desire to see others fail.

Exactly, foster. There are certain people in this city will pay $500 for decent seats at Madison Square Garden any time. They dont even think about the price. I'm not saying it's everyone, but its some people.

Ummm...I think not. While Manhattan does have the wealthiest population in the country living on the upper East Side, statistics show that the median income for Manhattan is $36K. That isn't much higher than Chicago ($33K) or LA ($34).

I live in Manhattan, and no one around here's gonna drop a grand on an evening of theater. The snooty poos who live in some brownstones in some glitzy neighborhoods, maybe, but most people who live here save their money for like, food, even with the Manhattan zip code.
Of course, in a few decades' time, the island will be nothing but snooty poos and glitzvilles and the homogeneity will drive the big apple into becoming an overripe, and then rotten, fruit. that's my prediction and I'm sticking to it.

The bells are tolling
Broadway is officially now a business with the sole purpose of milking the suckers. This will do wonders for restaurants in the area.Pretty soon, TDF & TKTS will be what full price is now
Broadway RIP. To Mr Brooks, you cannot take it with you. Looks like we will be going less & less. This should weed out the riff raff & stop repeated viewing with the exception of the Sultan of Brunai

Posted: 6/22/07 at 6:05pmIf Judy Garland came back from the dead I don't think I could pay almost $500 to see her. Based on this kind of greed, I hope the show is a big flop--which "The Producers" eventually became!

I'd like to see these statistics. When I say most Manhattan residents, I'm referring to Manhattan home owners. Permanent, property owning Manhattan residents.

Please tell me you are kidding. The Producers was a huge hit that ran for SIX YEARS on Broadway and got rave reviews. Explain to me how it was a big flop?
And I also don't know why you would wish failure on anyone. I don't agree with these ticket prices and I think it's greedy, but I'm not wishing for the show to fail.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 6:23pmAll I can say is it must be nice not have to think about the price of a theatre ticket. My parents and I just returned from seeing "Wicked and "The Color Purple" in Chicago and we all came to the conclusion that Broadway and Broadway touring shows are an "event" because of their cost. Thank God for regional theatres that still do quality theatre at reasonable prices!
#71re: Young Frankenstein face price is $451 on weekends
Posted: 6/22/07 at 6:26pmI think "The Producers" is a flop when you consider it won more Tonys than any show in history and it closed after a six year run! Pretty pathetic when you think that shows that won fewer Tonys are still running. As for wishing failure on anyone--you reap what you sew when greed runs rampant!

Did 'The Producers' recoup its initial investment?
If yes, it was not a flop.
If no, it was a flop.
It's really not a difficult definition to remember. :P
#73re: Young Frankenstein face price is $451 on weekends
Posted: 6/22/07 at 6:31pmAnd The Producers made back it's money. So it was a finacial hit. The Producers also had rave reviews. So it was a critical hit as well. So, tell me how you consider The Producers a flop. Because, it was in no way a flop.
#74re: Young Frankenstein face price is $451 on weekends
Posted: 6/22/07 at 6:36pmI guess by "definition" it wasn't a flop, but given all the hype it should have run much longer than it did. I admit I'm a "The Producers" hater. I think all the awards it won should have gone to "The Full Monty." "The Producers" has to be one of the most overrated shows ever, and I'm sure "Young Frankenstein" will give it a run for its money.
