Posted: 6/22/07 at 11:36amMaybe Mel Brooks isn't as much of a whore as this report, if it's true, suggests. For your $451, you get hot towels, homemade cookies and ice cream sundaes during the show, with deep tissue massages at intermission. The playbills will be edged in gold and the seats will recline for your ergonomic theater enjoyment. Then the entire audience is invited to Sutton and Christian's new apartment for a slumber party.

Haha nygrl... Good idea. This is really getting ridiculous. When you are charging more than a Las Vegas show would ever charge, that is when you have to stop.
And the extra dollar is the theater service charge.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 11:58amUnfortunatly, tourists and wealthy theater going people will pay that price. I know too many people that paid how ever much ($300?)The Producers was charging when it first came out. Not only did they love The Producers but many thought it was the best show they had ever seen. Put yourself in that position now. If you thought The Producers was the greatest show you had ever seen and could afford to pay as much as they are charging, why wouldn't you pay it? People will pay and tourists will splurge on this one show instead of seeing a few shows.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 12:07pmActually, Brooks charged $480 for tickets to The Producers when Broderick and Lane came back. And yet, the show still sold out (or close to it).

Posted: 6/22/07 at 12:07pmGot my ticket for the Seattle run yesterday -- Flying in just to see it. 75.00 Orchestra seats, row N. THANK GOODNESS! I know the show will probably change between Seattle and NYC, but at least I won't need a second mortgage to see it.

"Joe, it is better that the show get the money and not scalpers, but when is enough enough? Will we someday see "premium" seats going for $1000 a ticket? It's getting a bit ridiculous."
FOrgive me if I just made this up, but weren't they selling either Nathan Lane/Mathew Brodrick Producers or Odd Couple premium for $1,000 or $1,500??

What I still don't understand is that people are acting like these prices are set in stone forever and Brooks will get what's coming to him because nobody will pay those rates.
If nobody pays that, they can cut prices. They won't just close the show at the first hint of trouble.
But if the show sells out at these prices, $451 could be a bargain compared to later increases.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 12:59pmIf you look at that pricing sheet, regular Orchestra tickets are $121 with Balcony being $76 & $51. Which is pretty much normal. It's only the Premium seats that are listed as more, which frankly I don't give a crap about since I will never ever buy a Premium seat. As long as the prices of the other seats stay the same, I don't see the problem. If no one buys them then they'll lower the price.

The ACTUAL price is the price American Express bills me on my statement so the top price would be $451.00 ..there are over 600 tickets at the top 2 BO prices
I think they are jinxing the show with this price

Over reaction much?
The entire pricing scheme is the EXACT same as any other hit show currently playing.
$121.50 Orchestra
$121.50 Front Mezz (aka Dress Circle)
$75-$50 Balcony.
And remember is this just weekends.
Even the Premium Seats are $375 which compared to others seems to be a normal price.
The only difference here, is they seem to have added another tier to the pricing scheme: Premier Seats which top out at $451.
I do have to say I would be pissed off if I paid $375 and didn’t get the best seat in the house.
But come on people. Calm down. The tickets are still normal priced, and if they don’t sell the Premium/Premier seats they will be re-released as regular Orchestra seats just like any other show. This WILL NOT hurt their attendance.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 1:25pmIt's not an over reation, myManCape, because they are going to sell the entire orchestra back to like row P as premium seats. It's the same thing at Jersey Boys. Practically the entire orchestra is sold at premium prices with the last few rows at the $120 price. Also, that theatre is so vast that the balcony, which is like a mile away from the stage, should really be $30 in the back, not $50.

Posted: 6/22/07 at 1:49pmWell said, bjh2114. To me its not that there are premium seats, but the extent seating that is allocated premium.

What's the issue?
They're $451 for PREMIER seats. We all know that's bull****.
Regular orchestra seats are $121.50 - quite average these days, if you ask me.
I honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about.

Is this really a big deal? Aside from the premium pricing, the ticket scale looks a lot like that for other shows. Premium pricing typically doesn't even affect general ticket availability. Even without it, the best seats to popular shows are swooped up by scalpers who then mark them up. The only real difference is that with premium pricing, more of the money goes to the producers rather than the scalpers. I think it's a false assumption to think that without premium pricing, all of these tickets would be readily available at lower prices.
There are a surprising number of people -- wealthy tourists and businessmen included -- who are willing to pay $500 or more for tickets to the hottest Broadway show. They've been doing it for years, well before premium pricing was ever introduced. Clearly premium pricing has a market. Just about every Broadway show now does it.
Of course it remains to be seen whether YF will be a hit. But it's a win-win for Mel & Co - they can pull in more money earlier in the run, and even if the show is not a huge success and they can't sell tix at $451, they can then lower the premium price or sell them at $121. It won't really have an effect on their overall ability to sell tickets.

Some of you aren't listening. Most of the hit shows are selling practically the entire orchestra as premium seating. When I went looking for a Spamalot ticket, the box office outlined the premium seats for me, the first four seats on the aisles of the side sections (it increased the further back it went), and all but the last six rows of the orchestra. I'm sorry, but that is unacceptable. And the Hilton is HUGE.
But also, The Producers was ALL about Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. I don't think Young Frankenstein is going to have the same audience excitement for its cast. The Producers died when Lane and Broderick left, so I think this may be wishful thinking on Brookes' part.
