This is a thread to write about autographs you have recieved that you particularly favorite over others (though any and all autographs are awesome). They may be your favorite for a certain reason, and if so, please feel free to share.

My most favorite autograph I have recieved was Jimmy Smits after his final performance of God Of Carnage. He was sweet and cordial and even personalized it!! (Oh yeah, and he kissed my mom and I had to keep her from collapsing in the alley).

I don't have that many autographs, but out of the few I have, the best experience had to be getting Julia Murney's autograph.

She was the nicest and funniest I've met so far. Christian Borle was a doll but Julia is my idol. First, seeing her as Eva and then meeting her? It was a dream! I was the only person at the stagedoor after the show, so we had a pretty long conversation. We talked about everything. It was a truly grand experience.

Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, RENT, Mamma Mia!, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Evita (with Julia Murney), Hairspray (with Paul Vogt), Peter and the Starcatchers (with Christian Borle), Lion King, Altar Boyz, Legally Blonde (with Lauren Zackrin).

I cherish my Doubt playbill. Cherry Jones personalized it and wrote me a rather long, beautiful note inside. Still one of my favorite memories. Adore her.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Okay, I'll bite. My VERY favorite autograph and one that I'd like buried with me is the Playbill of the original stage version of Auntie Mame, autographed by Rosalind Russell, which I got after the February 27, 1957 performance of the show. I was 11 at the time and, after waiting in the freezing cold for over an hour, she dashed out, got in her car and the car took off. She must have seen me through the corner of her eye, because she had the driver stop and talked to me for several minutes. My life has never been the same since and that program is framed and occupies a place of honor in my apartment. LONG LIVE ROZ for the millions of gay people for whom that performance was a benchmark.

I love my signed Pippin playbill signed by Priscilla Lopez. Also, I love all my Angela Lansbury signed playbills and pictures (I think I have 4).

I also have one more autograph story that was my favorite for its significance.

I saw "Hairspray" in September 2008 with my Grandmother (who was dying of cancer and I vowed to get her to see it, she passed July 2009). Afterward, I told my Mom (who came in case something were to occur) to take Grandma to the end of the street while I got a Playbill autographed for her.

Six members signed it and I hid it away since I was planning to give it to her for Christmas.

I never got a chance to frame it so I didn't give it to her for Christmas. I was going to visit her at home one day and I had framed it. However, I forgot it at home and didn't get a chance to get home and retrieve it. That very night, her house burned down, but she survived.

I vowed to christen the wall of her new house with the framed autograph Playbill once she moved in, but she died before she had the chance...so I color-copied the cover with the autographs and I left it in her casket...

Mandy Gonzalez and Corbin Bleu

I went to see In The Heights with some friends and I won the lottery, so I sat front row. We went to the stage door after and I got to meet my idol, Mandy Gonzalez. She was so nice and took the time to talk to me, even though the place was really crowded because it was Corbin's first week with In The Heights. After that I didn't care who else we saw, I had meet Mandy Gonzalez, but my friends wanted to meet Corbin Bleu. Of course I had no problem with this seeing as it's Corbin Bleu, so we waited some time for him to come out, but there was a mob and my friends and I were pushed from the front to the back. We decided to wait for the crowd to go away and when they did we got our picture with him. When I turned around to say thank you, he asked, "Weren't you sitting in the front row?" I almost died right there. The two of them made that the best day ever!

Jordan, did Lauren Bacall sign that in front of you? At the stage door? Just curious because I didn't think she signed autographs.

I have a few favorites, but the one that sticks out in my mind is my ANYONE CAN WHISTLE CD cover signed by Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Laurents, and Angela Lansbury. I will treasure it always.

Edit: quizking, that is a wonderful story. I'm glad you grandmother got to see the show...and putting the color copy of the autographed playbill cover in her casket is a nice touch. i'm sure she appreciated it.

RE: Lauren Bacall's autograph. I saw her in Woman of the Year, and yes, she did sign after the show. She didn't seem offended by people's asking (it was an evening performance and there wasn't all that big a mob). I suspect that she'd had one or two before exiting the theatre because she kept talking about having to go to a funeral the next day (a Saturday) and didn't seem completely "with it." But she was cordial.

I would have to say Josh Lamon - he sent me a signed headshot, a signed picture of when he was Boq and a nice letter telling me how much he liked my letter. Awesome! :)

WAT, yes she signed it at the stage door. There weren't a ton of people there, I remember and she was very nice. Someone asked for a picture with her and she politely declined (almost the same way Kathleen Turner does) because she said she looked like a mess after a performance or something like that. She was very kind and even talked with me for a moment when I asked her a question about Old Hollywood, something that I think she never expected to be asked about after a show.

As for the Paul Newman playbill, he was known for not really signing a lot, if any, after a show and after I saw it the first time he walked past us all and drove away. So I went back the next night and same thing. I was DETERMINED to get that playbill signed and on my 5th night, he signed it. And honest to God, I was the only one he signed before he got in that car and drove away. I thanked him, he said "You're very welcome. Have a good night" and that was it. The legend spoke to me. lol

Paul and Joanne were in the audience of Albee's SEASCAPE a few years ago and he cordially signed a Playbill for me. Very nice fellow, and also obliged a photograph.

My favorite would have to be first when I saw Whisper House because they all signed and wrote me notes. I also loved Bonnie and Clyde because I met my Idol Laura Osnes :) Some other great ones were Grease because EVERYONE came out and were all really nice, and meeting my other Idol three times Megan Hilty at Wicked and 9 to 5 who is also the nicest person ever. My favorite fanmail I have gotten was Josefina Scaglione because the wrote the sweetest letter!

Over the summer I got a gift from the 5th Avenue Theatre. It was a "Catch Me if You Can" poster signed "To Emily, Aaron Tveit." I later learned that they didn't sell the posters to the public.

I took an armful of stuff to have Donna McKechnie sign in January 09.

The biggest thrill was when I managed to get a seat next to Jerry Herman, the Tuesday before Daniel Davis was let go from La Cage. He signed and was very polite.

Jordan, I thought you were in your 20's for some reason.

My favorite authograph is Brooke Shields' and recently I like Valerie Harper's. But I love 'em all!
