Personally, I think Christy was TREMENDOUS as Belle - as a matter of fact I'm going at least two more times before she is finished because I thought she was fabulous. As far as her vocals, I would KILL to have her range... she DID have to audition (just to let everyone know) - and she looks and sounds just like the character. It's disturbing to me to read over some of the previous posts - what did this poor girl ever do to you personally to make you so nasty towards her? She was hired to do a job, she's doing her job, and the fact that the show sells out almost every night should say something about her being there... consdering the fact that it almost CLOSED before she took over the role. I wish she could stay longer - but there are bigger and better things in store for Ms. Romano. And you all will be eating your words... wait and see.
ok I hate to have to do this but I must defend Hilary Duff. I too, wouldn't go near her before I knew her and I just thought she was the most talentless thing ever...then, of course, one of my good friends becomes good friends with her and I ended up hanging out with her a couple times. You have to give the girl credit. She is a people person, and she kicked the crap out of her concert when i saw it. So she may not be broadway-but she does actally have talent and is incredible at interacting with her fans. you think idina has it bad at the "wicked" stage door on her bad days and such? just try walking down the street with hilary duff and what she has to go to and how nice she is to every single person-even when they might say something rude to her!
"I guess she is one very confident girl who feels if you see it, it shall be.
I hope she sees a room with a piano player and a bunch of scary middle-aged queens sitting behind a table, talking to each other as she auditions!!"
-Marc Shaiman on Kelly Osbourne in Hairspray
It really is a shame that she isn't good in the role. From the billboard in Times Square alone, she looks like a great Belle. Oh well, she seemed to have potential.

Two totally different situations. People constantly coming up to you throughout your day is one thing. 100-200 people screaming/pushing their way towards you (8 times a week) all at once is a whole other ballgame. Hard to compare...

"people constantly coming up to you throughout the day...." Ok I agree it is hard to comapre situations- but I wan't talking about people constantly approaching her. I'm talking about people screaming and crying and malls having to be shut down because so many people are running to grab onto her and just want a piece of her and it gets really scary, and she does it with such grace. That was all my point was.

Just for the record, CCR's last day is September 12. Brooke Tansley (from Hairspray) takes over after that.
The current principal cast is: Beast - Steve Blanchard Gaston - Grant Norman Lefou - Aldrin Gonzalez Maurice - Jamie Ross Lumiere - Peter Flynn Mrs. Potts - Alma Cuervo Cogsworth - Jeff Brooks Babette - Pamela Klinger Madame de la Grande Bouche - Marguerite Willbanks
First off, I don't see why you people can't voice your opinions in a nice way. If she were to happen to read these I'm sure it would be a lot easier on her if the posts weren't so nasty.
Second, I haven't seen the show in person, but I've seen all the clips that I can. "A Change in Me" was not written for her range; however, she did a very nice job considering that. The other songs that I've heard her sing were also done very well. For the record, I have perfect pitch, and have been around the music business long enough to know "live" talent when I hear it. You can't forget that stuff recorded in a studio sounds much different than that which is live.
As far as expressions go, it is based off of a cartoon. It's not supposed to be life like. Therefore it's going to be a little cartoony, and weird.
You people seem a little too hard to please. Look at the whole picture. Again, at the very least, try to voice your opinions in a way that won't be so detrimental.

i saw her recently. all i can say is this: 'BOOO!!!!!!' i thought she was horrible. absolutely horrible. her singing was not that great. i thought her acting would be better but it wasn't. the strong point in her performance was 'a change in me.' the rest of the cast was PHENOMINAL! steve blanchard had me sobbing during the final scene and during 'if i can't love her.' peter flynn was histerical as lumiere. grant norman as gaston....wow! he was so amazing. i loved his performance. aldrin gonzalez as lefou was HILARIOUS!!! i truly felt sorry for his character. the entire cast was so talented.

ummm Deeva, you must be a friend or relative of Christys. So many people I know have seen her in this show and said she was awful. Heck, she was awful at Broadway in the park. She doesn't have a huge range at all...she hasn't done anything to me personally, but I spent alot of money on tickets to a craptacular performance in a show I would normally have enjoyed. She is only selling out because she is popular amoung all of these little kids who watch her cartoon character. She should be able to take the criticism if she's in this business. Yeah she's doing her job...but not well...I think you need to see more Broadway shows because she really doesn't belong there. As far as bigger and better things in store for her, I won't hold my breath. Oh wait, were you talking about her upcoming CD? Please, that will be sitting on the clearence shelves within a year. Seems she's trying everything to follow in Hilary Duffs shoes. It might be a little too late. Perhaps she should continue to study political science. Who knows, maybe she'll be able to persuade people to vote for her there.
uuggghhh Lizzie as Belle? Oh you know some evil person is trying to make that happen for whatever reason. I guess the ONLY thing good about Aida closing is that it will close before they tried to get "That's So Raven" Symone (sp? who cares?) in that show.
"What could a computer do with a lifetime supply of chocolate? I am now telling the computer exactly what it can do with a lifetime supply of chocolate!"
I agree with showstopper. Deeva....you must be a friend or relative. If you are also deevadesigns, you are the only person to give her raving reviews on other sites and on her own website. If you are truly a friend or relative who loves her, you will not try to cover things up and will help her. From the performance I saw, she has obviously seriously damaged her voice and should not even be performing. Honestly. She really needs to be on vocal rest or she risks damaging her voice forever (if she has not already done so). I don't understand why no one has tried to help her. It is embarassing and it is also very sad. Like I said earlier...she is not truly untalented. She is cute on t.v. but she is ruining her voice. She needs to rest. Why won't anyone open her eyes and just help her. The people that she works for and the people that love her are doing a disservice to her and I actually feel sorry for the girl and I blame the producers, her managers and her loved ones for letting this fiasco continue. Someone please help her before it is too late.
I'm not a friend, and I'm not a relative - though I am a fan. And as for my "experience" with live shows, I've worked in the entertainment industry for over 15 years - so I THINK I know what I'm talking about.
As far as Christy trying to follow Hilary?? OMG - you've got THAT the other way around. Christy has been in the business since she was six years old. Hilary is only who she is because of Disney pushing her in everbody's face. Christy has done other things besides Disney.
You are right about Christy needing a rest - I have to agree there. And she'll be getting one after September.
I was just saying that you guys don't have to be so nasty about her as a person - she's really a gracious person, very sweet, and she's always giving back to the fans, unlike a LOT of celebrities I have met in my time. Give her a break. Like "Ediger" said, "Do unto others." You never know when any one of you are in Christy's shoes, and would you want to read that kind of nasty stuff about yourself? I doubt it.
True, she's been doing stuff since she was 6. Christy is only who she is because of Disney pushing her in everyones face also. Nobody knew who she was until she did Disney. Heck, she even calls herself the "Disney Chic". My big complaint is that she doesn't belong on Broadway. Let her make a pop cd like all the rest of the Disney chics. Thats the type of singer she really is. It's not fair to pay 100.00 to see a broadway show with a bunch of talented actors and singers in it and the lead stuck in there with no vocal talent.
she was in the original production of PARADE as Mary Phegan. I think she sounds good on the cast recording.........I do not live near NYC, so I have never seen the show so I can not comment on her voice for it.
"They're eating her and then they're going to eat me. OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!" -Troll 2
Ahe's very young on the recording for Parade. I think she was 12. You can't compare that kind of singing to a 20 year old. She honestly can't hit the notes. She cracks in the high notes. Maybe they should have lowered the key for her but this is horrible any way you look at it.
Actually, she's done alot more than just "Parade" - she toured with the Will Rogers Follies, as well as "The Sound of Music". She did get known through Disney, but her background is in theater.
I don't quite remember Disney pushing Christy into our faces. As a matter of fact I've rarely seen her on a Disney commercial. Christy could've made it on any channel, doing any show. That's how talented she is.
I enjoyed Christy as Belle. I think the show itself isn't that great (and the movie is my favorite Disney film) and I think she did fine. I saw her in May and she was cute as a button. And I really respect her for what she has to put up with at the stage door. Idina Menzel doesn't have it half as bad.
Seeing as I've seen Christy twice in Beauty and the Beast, she was awesome as Belle both times. Even though I am an enormous fan of hers, she HAS had off days, but who doesn't? I just wanted to let you all know that if you want to express your feelings about her, could you please do it in a nicer way? I know that people are entitled to their own opinions, but this is crazy. And just to let you all know, I'm not a family member (although that would be cool), and I'm not a friend, just a huge fan of Ms. Romano and her work. That's my two cents.
Is she really that bad? I haven't seen it yet, but I'm going next week. I mean sure, I knew she was no Egan (who I saw in this part before ::does happy dance::) but I didn't hear that she was cracking on notes? Are you exagerating? Cuz I paid 100 bucks a ticket. I want the set AND the cast to be good!
I thought she was good in Parade. (true she was like... 12?) I always thought her acting was good on TV... ::shrug:: maybe she's just not cut out for B-way. It's true though, they did cast her cuz they knew she'd bring in her fans that are unfamilar with how broadway is. I hope it's not packed with kids when I go... :cringe: kids, bleh!
Whoa! I am really slow to anger but most of you here have got me mad. I personally LOVE Christy Carlson Romano. I don't understand why you all are up against her when I can make a bet that 99% of you don't even know her! It is horrible to see what you are saying about her! I am a HUGE fan of her and I saw her perform on August 27th and I thought she was FANTASTIC!!! She did excellent job acting and singing!
I noticed previously in this forum, it was mentioned that she had odd facial expressions and that they were over done. Well excuse me, but it all depends where you were sitting. If you were in the front of course they were over done so that people in the back would be able to see it. I was in the front and I found nothing odd about her expressions.
Next, I agree fully with Deeva. I would kill for Christy's singing range! I am an a female tenor and although there is nothing wrong with that, I would kill to be a soprano too. There isn't much written for altos and to have a range like the wonderful Ms. Romano's is a gift that is really under apreciated.
Next, I agree with XoTeAcHeRsPeTXo. Everyone has their off days and some of you people forget that Ms. Romano isn't a robot who must be perfect every single day, she is human! She may have her off days but, life goes on!
Lastly, I would like to close with the statement that am not Christy, a friend of Christy's, a family member, etc. I am just a huge fan. And I would like to agree with Deeva again with the fact that one day you will all be eating your words! You just wait and see.
