Is this for real? I mean honestly, leave the poor woman alone. What does it matter if you get her autograph or not? What exactly is the significance of an autograph? Do you like, stare at it and stroke it and kiss it and try to copy it? Geez!

The only autograph I have of my favorite Broadway performer is one that a mutual friend got for me. It doesn't matter. Her life is rough right now, and she doenst want to sign. There are other things in life that are far more important then a scribble on a playbill. Think about the horrible deaths in Sri Lanka and places like that. Think of the great and wonderful Jerry Orbach who lost his battle with cancer. I'm sure you don't even know who he is, but whatever. Grow up and get over it. Just be glad you saw the show, and go to see her.

I am sure I will regret this post as soon as I post it.

Have no regrets. Well, if you have any regrets, it should only be that your message, as true as it is, will likely fall on deaf ears of those who need to read it the most, and that you wasted your time trying to spread the word anyway.

(BTW, like your icon.)

i agree - but still, it just means you made contact with the cast and all....to me, it reminds me of seeing the show and the great time i had...

some ppl like signing - like tonight at dracula (yes, again) the guy at the stage door was holding markers for the cast to use....the cast was happy to sign, some actors even waited just to sign autographs. Updated On: 12/29/04 at 09:12 PM

I don't think it's the desire to get an autograph that's the problem. It's more the attitude that a lot of the fans harbor as to why they're owed an autograph or how they justify their behavior. (Sometimes they don't think their actions need to be justified!)

yea, i get it...

i mean, i admit, i get mad when someone doesn't come out, but i mean - that's life, w/e...i really get angry when the person is a complete A-hole and doesn't come out b/c they think they are too good for it - but that is another story.....and i don't think i;ve ever encountered that.,...

by the by, does any1 know how quickly after the show the line by the wicked stage door fills up? (yes, i am gonna try for the rest of the cast this time and not just idina...long story...i think i dissed norbert though....)

Thank you Tiff (love your icon too) and MaTakeALookatMe....I knew their had to be somebody who understood where I was coming from. That's exactly what I was talking about Tiff. These actors don't owe you anything. Performing is extremely strenuous work, and sometimes, you just want to go home. Trust me, I know.

I am just having a rough day...Jerry's death has really messed with me.

Thanks, Ma.

BSo--Not that quickly. After the show the first time I saw it, I had enough time to get outta the theatre (granted I was in the front of the orchestra so I may have been closer to the exit), and I had time to run a full square around the outside of the theatre to find the stage door, discover it was actually across from the theatre (hard to explain - anyone who's been to the stage door knows what I mean) and be in the middle of the line.

thnx tiff, the first time i was in the back of the orch (which is close) and i didn't even get on line, i stood to the side and, well, some lady started crying that she wanted Idina's autograph so i heard her telling her family about the car, so i followed her....

but now, i will be in the mezz, hopefully i can run and get there....JLT is talented - hopefully she's there on sunday

Note to the JLT seekers. She is like the fastest person ever. I have never waited for her at Wicked, but at Urinetown, she would take at most 25 minutes to get outta there.

I would love to meet Idina. If I had the opporunity to go see Wicked, I would definitely wait outside to get her autograph. But I would wait politely. I would not scream. I would act like a rational person. And if, for whatever reason I din't get an autograph, I'd say, "Well damn" and go on about my life without thinking Idina had personally wronged me.

This is from about a page back or so, but I have to say a big 'ole EXACTLY to MaTakeaLookatMe. I interned near the Gershwin over the summer, and had some spare time between the time my train got in and the time I needed to be at work, and that time happened to fall right around the time everyone arrived for the Wednesday matinee. The New Kid on the Block fan in me was hoping to catch a glimpse of Joey McIntyre...I'm not a very outspoken person, so I was just planning on smiling and maybe waving to him, not wanting to take up any of his time (I did get up the nerve to ask him for a picture one of the days, and he was a complete and total sweetheart about it). I saw plenty of...well...enthusiastic Idina fans, to say the least. And they would get overly excited and loud and, for lack of a better word, spazz-y when Idina would arrive at the stage door. I can completely understand why she was more likely to just go inside instead of signing autographs - it can be overwhelming for someone not used to it. One time, though, I was by myself at the door, talking with one of the guys who worked with the show, and Idina walked up. I smiled at her and told her to have a good show...she stopped and thanked me, and willingly spoke to me for a few minutes, asked if I wanted her to sign anything. She was incredibly gracious to me when I told her I was a big fan. It's all in the way you treat the performer, from my experience. If you're gracious and kind to them, 9 times out of 10, you can expect the same treatment in return.

I just wanted to say: those of you saying how people need to realize the actors owe us nothing. You're entirely right. the only thing they Have to do is give a good show. Today at Wonderful Town, Brooke Sheild didn't come out after the matinee. I totally understood and didn't actually care as I wasn't waiting just to meet her. A group of people got really upset and asked Greg Edelman (who they didnt care to see at all) to go get her. He actually went in and brought out Playbills Brooke had signed. Honestly, some epople need to realize the actors are people, they dont have to sign or take pictures.

Sadly, not this Sunday, but I will next Sunday. I have two tickets in the last row of the mezz for Idina, Joey, and Chris Fitzgerald's last show.

Enjoy Hairspray though! I haven't seen it yet, but am planning on going sometime this month so I can catch John Hill back in action. *hugs avatar*

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it, but all she really dreams is to make someone else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer. And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

I went and saw Hairspray for my birthday back in June. Sadly not on Broadway (I live in California, so I saw it in San Fransisco).

And then, do you know Monseiur Marius, I believe I was a little in love with you.

"if u are aggressive, it doesn't matter where you are"

If you are aggressive, IMHO you've got no right to be there. In the UK, actors will point blank refuse to sign for anyone they consider to be acting out of order. You stand and wait patiently. You act like a RATIONAL human being. If you scream, and push, and get nasty towards people, then the actors won't come near you.

I've been to the stage door several times to see Michael Ball, Brian Blessed, Richard O'Brien etc. In MOST cases, the fans waiting have been well-mannered, chatting to each other, taking photos for each other so that where there is a group they can all get in the shot, rather than one having to take the photo; helping "first-timers" get their moment with the star. In those cases where they have behaved badly, the stars have just said hi whilst walking down to their cars - they don't stop for anyone.

You'd be amazed how quickly people learn to behave. Except, of course, for those obsessives who don't actually realise they were the cause of the change in routine. The over-enthusiastic fans are generally quickly curbed by the more experienced ones who calm them down if they look like getting out of hand, without spoiling the thrill for them.
