I saw the show tonight for the first time. I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Catherine Walker was on for Mary, and she was FANTASTIC. I loved her. Apparently, she hurt her ankle badly during the show as well. You definitely couldn't tell. She had a great voice, and what I loved about her was that there is always something a little off about Mary. Not everything is so "jolly" and you could always see a little bit of that with her. There was always a little bit of an interesting look about her. Loved it. And the set was probably my favorite I've ever seen. And Gavin rocks my world for dancing on the ceiling.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I LOVED Mary Poppins when I saw it in July! Ashley Brown and Gavin Lee were perfect in their roles. Whenever anyone asks me what show they should go see I say Mary Poppins, It's great for any age!
I had to see it (in London) when I heard it was closing. Fortunately, I went up to London for an audition, so I had a weekend to waste. I met up with a friend and we were praying there would be some MP tickets left. We went to the Prince Edward theatre and using our NUS cards, we got row M tickets in the stalls for £25 each for the Saturday afternoon performance Absolutely loved it, we had a stand in for Bert who was excellent and Scarlett Strallen was wonderful! And the set was incredible too, I can imagine it being hard though touring with a huge set like that. Shame it's closing, I could see them putting it on for another year or two
lite2shine, I will most definitely post a full review... even though my view of the stage may only be about 70% or so...

AveQ: The London set, which will be used for the tour, is pretty tinker-ish. The house breaks into three pieces in London (on Broadway, it's in one piece). It's a shocker.
Gavin Lee has said he has no plans for leaving any time soon...is Rebecca Luker extending? I wouldn't be surprised, she's famous for long runs.
Catherine Walker's been on A LOT this year, and she's gotten very good notices. Good to see. Out of all shows, I'd love to see Mary Poppins promote its understudies to lead status one day, because the original first understudies have gotten nothing but generally positive notices.

Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
I heard that Gavin L LOVES NYC, so it's safe to say that he'll stay. I'm sure Dan and Rebecca will too but don't know about Ashley. The major changes would be Michael/Jane, as soon as these kids grow up, they have to be replaced.
I know box seats tend to be "bad" but can anyone tell me which specific box seats for this show are the better ones? I remember someone mentioning Box 11 or something like that.

Box 11 has an OUTRSTANDING view. You are close, yet you see well over 85% (probably cloer to 90%) of the stage, you miss almost nothing. The biggest obstruction is half of Mr. Bank's office, but it's not even a big deal. Oh, and you can just see the chimney on the Banks' roof. No biggy.
I can firmly assume that box 12 is very similar, with different unimportant obstructions.
These two boxes are probably really work more than their $25-$30 price, because man, are they a steal!

I sat in box 8, balcony box second from the front, and I was surprised at how obstructed it actually was. There was a lot on the right side I missed. Fortunately, I was able to move to a much better seat during intermission.

For those partially limited view boxes, the further you are away from the stage, the better the view would be. I haven't sat in any of them but if I have a choice, Box 12 would be it. As I don't want to miss anything Dan Jenkins does (LOL) in his study, and also at the end you can see Mary Poppins up close :) Updated On: 8/13/07 at 02:40 PM
I was asking because I might see it again before I go back to school. I saw quite a few shows in July and have only one planned so far for August so I need to see something!
I saw it once back in May. Ashley Brown has a spectacular voice - wish I got to see her in Beauty and the Beast!

Do you think I would be able to move at intermission if it is really obstructed?

All I know is that the people in the two boxes in front of me were complaining during intermission. I can't reiterate enough, Boxes 11 and 12 have wonderful views, and if I go back to see the show (which won't be till next year with a new cast), I will try to sit in either one of them.
ETA
I do not know if you could move...takle a look around before the show starts for empty seats, and if they are still vacant at intermission, snatch them if you can.
Where are you sitting?

I don't know if this is even or odd side, but I don't think my view will be THAT bad. The two higher ones are 10/11 and 8/10, correct?

The photo is taking a picture of the even side (so it was taken from the odd side where I sat).
Your view should be okay, I'd say. The people in Box 7 the night I moved to Box 9 before the show, and they were happier. However, when the lights went out, they were moved by the usher as the true occupents of Box 9 were in. So I'd say it's a heck of a lot better than Box 7, especially sicnce you are farther.
Do not worry about it too much. Most of the action is pretty central anyway. And even though it is nice to see George Banks in his office, it's not the pinacle of the evening.

Well when I get back I'll tell everybody how the view is. If you go on youtube and watch the video of The New Amsterdam, box 12 is only a couple feet farther out than box 10.

I saw the show Sat night from box 11. We picked those seats based on recomendations from her. It was well worth it, thanksto phantom is correct, you only miss part of the office, and not much happens there.
After seeing this show, I can't believe it didn't win the Tony for best choreography. Mary Poppins was robbed! The cast was amazing, especially gavin Lee. I can't wait to see what he will do next on Broadway.
