I like the Hairspray/Wedding Singer theory. True, it could be another fluffy, fun, little cult musical that's there for fun, and that's it, just like Wedding Singer. But at the same time, it could evolve into a gigantic hit, a la Hairspray, with similar themes.
My guess is the first. I mean, after all, we do need a replacement now that TWS is gone. And Munk needs something else to fill his hatred void.

I can't believe it but I actually like this song just because it seems like the perfect set up song for the world Elle is coming from. It just fits the image we all have of sorority girls who care nothing except about fashion, money and marrying. But the moment with the sales clerk shows that Elle has the sense that will be developed more later in Harvard and that these girls really do care for her.
Overall, I can't wait to hear the rest.

I listened to it again and now I need this!
What an incredibly annoying song. They're actually having a conversation with a dog???
Am I the only one who believes this number sound like a song from Hairspray gone wrong?
I thought the film was funny, warm-hearted, and Reese Witherspoon managed to create a three-dimensional character instead of a caricature. Doesn't look like that'll be the case with this new musical. But, alas, let's wait and see what the audience and the reviews say.
"Munk loved Cats. So, there. You've been proven wrong."
Well, if Munk can love Cats (which i loved too, but it doesnt make it less awful) than maybe he can like another awkwardly campy musical.
But wait, we dont know what is like yet, because its not out! Like, solely judging on ONE SONG is B.S. Omigod! its like, judging a pink book only on its *sparkly* pink cover! Wow!
"I mean, dude, go find a punching bag...take a nap... and come back after you have your juice."
A cat nap! Hah! Now I am just as clever and B1tchy as Munk, and the rest of the angry bitter BWWers who never have anything nice to say!

There's a void?
That is about the worst series of songs I've heard from a Broadway musical since THE PRINCE OF CENTRAL PARK. Hideous.

I'm sorry, but that was terrible. Just ... terrible.
Prince of Central Park - funny enough, another Richard Blake musical.
I am really excited to see the set. There was an interview where the sets were described and it sounds awesome.
I love the sampler, but am reserving judgment for the actual show.
I think the cast has such potential - they are all so talented.
For the person who asked, Christian Borle is playing the Luke Wilson role.
I talked to the conductor and he said Orfeh sings the **** out of Paulette.
I have faith in Jerry MItchell. I think he is brilliant and he definitely has an idea for this show and a concept outlined perfectly in his head.
I am excited for it.
when does Orfeh not sing the **** out of something?

Somebody needs to find Richard Blake AND Orfeh decent shows. Between the two of them, their combined New York musicals have lost about 50 million bucks.

My ears are bleeding.
What was that? Chipmunks on helium?
It does sound like the kind of song one would put in the musical version of that movie. Maybe it will work better in context of the show in performance.
What was that? Chipmunks on helium?
Margo, that truly made my night...unfortunately, you're not wrong, that's exactly what they sound like.
OK, so am I the only one who found the fact they were conversing with a dog reason enough not to see this show?
I could not stand the lyrics, the music, the (to steal Margo's words) "chipmunks on helium," and least of all Laura Bell Bundy as a mutant amalgamation between Kristin Chenoweth and Marissa Jaret Winokur.
This song makes me sad. Not a sign of good things to come.
Believe it or not, I think the lyrics are appropriate- they set up the story and Elle does talk like a valley girl (I know some of you were expecting her to sing like Fosca in Passion).
The score, however, is a different story. It sounds very 80's...and this portends to me another "Wedding Singer"-like failure. I just don't see how a musical with 80's music is going to succeed. I wouldn't call it bad, just different from what most of us care to listen to. The same folks who loved "Wedding Singer" will probably love this score.

To answer the comment about the internet buzz....If creative teams regularly read what people posted on the internet regularly, they would then be able to fix the shows before they opened. SF disasters like Lestat and Mambo Kings (both of which I saw in SF) were flagged as disasters-in-the-making starting with the first preview.
While there are a lot of bitchy queens on these websites, almost all these bitchy queens understand what makes a musical successful and their suggestions are usually quite constructive.
Mmmm, that does sound like the parody of the opening number without even having come up with one yet... Forbidden Broadway will have a hard time with this one.
Oh! Maybe it's a teaser before they release the real song...
I love suspense!
I'm almost embaressed to say that I like this.
I think it really fits the world that Elle comes from... and maybe musically it will set up a contrast between the music in her hometown California and the music once she gets to Harvard (???). I think the music team was a quirky, cool choice and I have faith that they will turn out something fun, memorable, and maybe a little bit edgy. It's just one song. I'll reserve further judgement until I hear the whole score. I agree with whoever liked the act one closer , "So Much Better,"though. Cool song.
"I could not stand the lyrics, the music, the (to steal Margo's words) "chipmunks on helium," and least of all Laura Bell Bundy as a mutant amalgamation between Kristin Chenoweth and Marissa Jaret Winokur."
I'm pretty sure this is from the demo recording with Kerry Butler as Elle... so the mutant amalgamation would be Kerry Butler and not, in fact, Laura Bell Bundy.
That was truly awful. This does not bode well for this great pink hope. And I am not just judging based on this one song alone. I am judging from this one song combined with the fact that the producers and creative team have chosen, out of all the songs in the show, to post this one on the official website as a teaser, thus saying, "Hey, isn't this a BLAST? Doesn't this make you want to see our show?" Well, it ain't. And it doesn't. Again, that was truly awful.
And in Munk's defense, he likes a LOT of shows. Read his review of Grey Gardens.

Heh, this is the first of Legally Blonde's music I've heard, and it sounds cute, kinda a feel good musical to be listened to when you are feeling down.
A+ for cuteness from me.
