Why is it that Rosario gets all the attention for the RENT movie when she just joined the cast now....its outragous how everything is about her and only a little mension about the rest of the actors/actresses.
I agree with you. But she's the most hollywood oriented out of all the cast, so they're going to PR her so that people unknowing of RENT might be knowing of Rosario, there in that they will maybe see the movie, generating money, based on famousness rather than OBCs.
It's ridiculous that people are unhappy with every teeny, tiny, little thing.
Look at it this way. Would you rather that the entire movie have been cast with big stars, so that they could all be marketed equally? Perhaps they should've gone with Justin Timberlake, and Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera; then the entire cast would've been made of big, huge, star-power names, and no one would be on top in terms of measuring marketability by virtue of fame.
You need to understand that even though the originals have been cast - and it's a huge step in terms of protecting the integrity of the material - when you're looking at the general movie-going population (ASIDE from Rent fans), the names of the original actors are not very powerful; people don't know who they are. And even saying how unprecedented it is to HAVE the OBC be a part of the film will only get so many people to be interested. In having them cast, though, there's a compromise in the way the film's going to be marketed - and that's something the fans are going to have to accept if they want the movie to have a chance of doing well in the box office. Names = ticket sales.
...cathy dear this topic was already covered in past threads.
yes i do know that rosario had worked hard to get her name around.... and that she will bring in more people
They'll get their chances in the spotlight, too. There's tons of upcoming publicity.
I'm sure Rosario also worked very hard to get wherever she is also. They've all worked hard. The thing is she'll bring in more people to see the movie than the others. I mean, you DO want people to see it, right? I'm sure Idina, Anthony, Adam, etc, are not under the impression that THEIR names would bring in people to see it, so I can't see them not understanding this.
I think Rosario will sell the movie, but the OBC's will win people over to it's message and RENT love, and the willingness to see the movie again :)
Exactly. Rosario has a lot of film credits - and she's pretty young.
And really, don't start provoking touchy subjects just because you're bored.
The thing is, if there were a poster in a movie theatre that said:
RENT
starring ADAM PASCAL
99.5% of those who walked by would either ignore it, or go "Who the hell is that?"
It sucks, but that's the way it is.
I doubt that any of the original RENT stars are so delusional that they think their names are big sellers. And I think they understand how marketing stuff goes. I doubt any of them feel slighted- they probably are all very grateful for the chance to be IN the movie. (The same is true for Tracie Thoms- she's a RENThead like us all. If I were a RENThead in the RENT movie, I wouldn't care WHOSE name was on that poster. The fact would still be: WOAH. I WAS IN THAT. AND WOA- MY FACE IS ON THAT POSTER!)
I think people are getting too worked up about this. It's marketing- that's the way it works.
See, and I'd be the happiest idiot in the world - to see that poster somewhere.
hahahaha...i hear you on that, emcee!
it's definitley a publicity thing. maybe after this movie adam's name will be more recognizable!
I'd also probably steal it, in my excitement. I'd come down with a sudden bout of kleptomania, and all of the posters in my area would suddenly go missing.
Edited because of REALLY poor spelling!

a musical about gay people and AIds is a hard sell anyways.
Are you oh-no-ing my poster comment, Aigoo?
On the contrary. "Oh no"-ing at RentBoy's post...
Uh okay ... changing back to Rosario ...
She'll be on The Tony Danza Show tomorrow, so she may talk about the movie. *shrugs*
aw, she's everywhere! I think they're gearing up for Two Gents of Verona, though - hopefully with at least quick mention of the movie.
I don't usually watch the The Tony Danza Show (he bugs me) but i'll watch it for her.
rosario has been in film for the past 10 years.
she has a higher visibility with movie going audiences because of this.
i think second to her would be taye diggs, followed by jesse l. martin.
sure her presence in the movie is a plus and yes she may even garner a little more press than the others because of this but in the long run it will be good for the movie.
the movie will also showcase the amazing talents of adam, anthony, wilson, idina and tracie to an audience who would otherwise not have the opportunity to see them.
they may even gain some new fans in the process and that's always a good thing.
i think it's a win/win situation and everyone is going to benefit from it in the long run.
i think rosario is lucky to have had the opportunity not only to be in this film but to do it with most of the original cast.
this may be the movie to put her over the top.
maybe we'll be really lucky and all the teeny boppers who LOVED Josie and the Pussy Cats will walk around singing La Vie Boheme
