i'm thinking Dean Cain or Taye Diggs or Henry Simmons (of NYPD BLUE) or the stablest of the Wayons (does one actually exist?)...but maybe i'm too "Jeeter-centric" in thinking it should be an ethnically-diversified performer. i DO think it needs to be someone attractive and witty and who can look like a ballplayer. Not sure it has to be a "name", as none of the original cast really were. And will Sunjata continue on LAW & ORDER SVU? wish Chris Meloni would join that TAKE ME OUT cast...maybe he can be in the film version with Mr. J-Lo.

Victor Webster (Samantha's inside trader BF) would be good. He looks like Sunjata a little & is not adverse to a little ( or a lot) of skin!

Considering that Darren Lemmings' biracial heritage is significant part of the character, Taye Diggs would not be right for the part nor would any white actor. I doubt they're going to find anyone who is as good a fit (both physically and emotionally) with the role as Daniel Sunjata. He brings the right tone to his performance. I was thinking Boris Kodjoe might be able to take on the role, but I'm not sure he has a gift for making sitcom style lines believable the way Sunjata does.

In any case, I'm eager to see Maximillian Alexander take on the role of Rodriguez. He hasn't been a very good actor on All My Children, but he has one hell of an upper body. If his lower half is as good as his top half, I'll be in heaven on November 13 when I see the play again.

I thought the producers were trying to get Taye Diggs to replace Sunjata. If they are going to the trouble of trying to replace Sunjata in January and stay open, they are going to need at least one "star name" to get them through those tough months at the beginning of the year. If O'Hare leaves at the same time, maybe they can get a name in that role and cast Lemming with an unknown.

i'd disagree that Diggs would not be believable playing a character of mixed ethnicity. i think he could.

I don't know if Taye Diggs would be up to the acting challenge of playing Darren Lemmings. Perhaps, he could, but I've seen no indication of that. Diggs also has a darker complexion than what the role calls for. They need a Derek Jeter-type. That's the whole point of the character. By casting someone whiter or darker, you dilute the points Greenberg makes about race.

I'm not sure Jeffrey Wright has the physical capabilities for playing the role. He doesn't strike me as someone who would be believable as a baseball player.

Check Diggs out in the film GO. He is a fine actor who too often doesn't get material that lets him show what he can do. He has loads of charisma and that is essential to play Darren. I think Jeffrey Wright is the wrong type and too old for Darren.
