i have a question about the song no good deed. there is an extra verse i see on some sites that have the lyrics. did they just cut that verse out of the cd or did they cut it out of the broadway show too?
Unlimited
The damage is unlimited
To everyone I've tried to help
Or tried to love
And, oh, Fiyero, you're the latest
Victim of my greatest achievement
In a long career of distress
Every time I could, I tried making good
And what I made was a mess!

What lyrics site do you read? The ones I've seen don't have that. That's really strange that some have it and some don't.

that was a verse that was cut from the show during the san francisco run.

they cut it completely after San Fransisco! I liked that part a lot though!

i also have a live recording of idina singing it and the verse is in that recording as well but it's not on the cd.

I have never heard those lyrics. They aren't in the show at all. Maybe they were reject lyrics. Like, Stephen Schwartz wrote them and then decided they sucked so he rewrote them. That's bizarre though.

I downloaded a lot of live versions of Wicked songs and almost every one is different, so I think they are from San Francisco. Like that one has that verse, Fiyero's part in As Long As You're Mine is "What am I doing? What's this I feel? The boy who was certain love wasn't real. Somehow I've fallen...etc" and there's different words in the middle of The Wizard and I, and a different beginning from Morrible. Apparently they made a lot of little tweaks to the songs from previews to Broadway.

What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

Not to mention "Which Way Is The Party" which is the funny-bad original "Dancing Through Life"! (something like "Which way is that case of Winkie Beer" haha)

And wasn't there a Dr. Dillamond funeral scene, which was cut completely?

Winkie beer?! Pass some of that over here!

Haha, then the next line was something about "swinging from the chandeliers" lol.
Yes, there was the Dillamond funeral seen where Galinda changed her name. I personally like that plot line (closer to the book) as it made it seem darker. But I guess I can see why they changed it (to give the show a lighter tone)?

The next line in that version of the song sounds like "This is a damned mess" But I was never really sure either. I'm bad at figuring out lyrics. I prefer the san fran version of the song so much more though....it's so much more powerful...I wish that part was still in there.

i liked that san francisco version of the song as well. it gave it more flare instead of jumping right into the chorus.

Hmm I thought it was "destructive mess. Yes, you could call it limitless"...or something.
Yes I really liked that part too...I like how it ties in the "unlimited" thing for like the fourth time in the show? But yet it's different than the others.
I really think they could have done a lot more with this show with a little more work...made it darker, like the book...even though I love the show!

ITA with you Marebare. Eventhough I love Wicked, I know it could have been so much better if they kept elements/themes from the book and implemented them into the musical storyline.

Does anyone have soundclips of the San Francisco songs?

I loved the book's dark tone and the musical was a little too cutesy. The fates of the characters are quite different, and I think the musical tries a little too hard to be taken seriously but then when it ends happily ever after, it diminishes whatever effect it had.

If you have the sound clips from SF, please PM me too!

I actualy liked "Which way is the Party" better. Lets face it, both songs are rotton. At least "party.." is fast and livly and entertaining. While "Dancin" just drags.

yea, i saw the san fran version and it was very different, different songs and such. those lyrics are from the san fran version.

"Contentment it seems merely happens, It appears Accompanied by no bravos and no tears" "The world is good you said Enjoy it's highs you said The summer flies you said So make a parade Of every moment Now throw away your hate And focus on what's great instead" ~William Finn

I wish they kept Dr. Dillamond's suicide in, it would have made the show better IMO. I think Wicked would have benefitted greatly if they had an extra hour or so to add more to the story because they have to put so much in and everything seemed rushed. People don't want to sit in a 3-4 hour musical though.
