What an extraordinary show for LCT. Congratulations to the creators, cast, crew for creating such a brilliant piece of art. And a special congratulations to Joshua, Caissie, Kai Harada, and the entire team for Best Revival! Well deserved, and bravo!

The Wheels of this Dream stayed intact, the entire time, regardless of the haters who never mattered to this production     RAGTIME closing August 16th; Cast Changes in Final Weeks

Why? I don't get the rationale.

Huh? This was always scheduled to close. In fact, it was originally scheduled to close 5 months ago. How exactly are they grabbing a Tony and running off?

Ragtime will actually have the latest closing of any Musical Revival winner since the pandemic shutdown. Company, Merrily, and Sunset all closed in July; Parade on August 6

I was pulling hard for CATS, and knew Ragtime was coming to an end. I thought that since they took the trophy, they’d go a bit longer. I’m also just bitter still about CATS losing

Nicholas Barron is extremely talented, I’m happy to see him getting a chance to play the role full-time. His performance was a major highlight in an otherwise extremely misguided “A Wrinkle In Time” at Arena Stage.

I mean we will see, but those buying tickets in advance want to see specific performers but now with these casting changes they're not going to be able to, so those tickets usually end up on the theater app (which I use sometimes and I think you all should too).

Everyone knew it was closing in August (they extended two weeks after their win) and no one ran off with anything. But, of course, he already knew that and needed to start a thread out of spite due to a show he literally goes to nightly and is unhealthily obsessed with losing an award. Pathetic and so weird.

On a seperate note I've just thought of this and I know this is not confirmed yet but picture this Lear DeBessonet directing THE SECRET GARDEN for Lincoln Center reuniting with Joshua Henry as Neville, Ben Levi Ross as Dickon, and Caissie Levy as Martha AND Nicholas Christopher as Archibald...I need to hear Joshua and Nick's "Lily's Eyes"

I think this is good news.  A non-profit shouldn't be running the same show for years on end.  They should be presenting new shows each season - whether those be new works or revivals.

Correct. Especially one that's had two revivals and is going on tour. Make space for the new.

Did they not have linctix available for the 08/16 performance? I only noticed availability for dates without Henry performing.

That's a nice bit of dreamcasting. I doubt we are going to see Josh or Caissie fresh off their Tony wins taking supporting roles. They are probably fielding numerous offers for other leading roles.

This makes no sense. I think you're saying that CATS could have used the Tony win more to propel a longer run, and that RAGTIME didnt "need" this in the same way. But wouldnt that be exactly the sort of politicking we would complain about?

Many people prefer Ragtime to CATS (myself included), and rewarded it accordingly--while STILL recognizing the genius of the directors and choreographers and costumers of CATS. The awards here made alot of sense, even if your preferences are different. Being mad at the RAGTIME producers for....not extending the show further? Not recasting all the leads (who have been remarkably consistent in challenging roles for the better part of a year)? Not bumping other productions that want to come in?

I would hardly call winning an award (deservedly so IMO) and extending two weeks past the scheduled closing date "running off into the sunset"...

This is the very reason LCT has been trying to build another theater for quite some time.  They were actively looking for a space to build a new theater around Lincoln center and expand the plaza, or in midtown.

They are limited in what they can do with only those spaces, and anytime they have a hit, they have to choose between keeping it running, but stifle subscribers/making new theater, or try to grow their audience, but close the moneymaker.

Being a fan of Cats is great.

Wanting Cats to win Best Revival is great.

Having a weird grudge against a non-profit enjoying its well deserved success is not so great.

Well deserved political* success. Everyone who is anyone in the industry knows why Ragtime won. It was a posthumous win for what didn’t happen in 1998.  Which is why Lear didn’t win, because it wasn’t the actual best. It was a way to honor Terrence McNally’s legacy of a highly adored classic.

I’m glad it did well at the box office and gave career awards to the deserving actors, but this win is simply business politics. It was a way for people to pat themselves on the back for what never happened - not because what’s happening at LCT is provocative or exciting for the industry. It’s the same show, with great performances and questionable directorial choices.
