Another great year for revivals. And why shouldn't forget about "Much Ado About Nothing"! I think "Downstate" like "Every Brilliant Thing" (which I had never heard of) and "Appropriate" (which I thought might be a new play given its limited exposure) would be considered a revival. But the one thing that's consistent about rules and regulations of any awards committee is their inconsistency!

More likely it's going to the Barrymore for a Limited Engagement. It should make the revival category interesting next year as it will be up against "Three Days of Rain" and "A Few Good Men". With Mantello directing, it should be an excellent production. But the Mackinnon version set a high standard.

Did not see Home but saw the other six possible revivals up for nomination...most recently Othello and Glengarry Glen Ross. I very much liked Eureka Day earlier this season, though I don't know how it qualifies for a revival since I don't anyone who had seen a production of it. It's not a traditional "revival" in that sense. But I think it will definitely be nominated. And I hope Jessica Hecht is nominated in the category of featured actress. More recent shows would include: American Psycho (dazzling production overlooked) and Bridges of Madison County (wonderful Jason Robert Brown score)and from the 80's Craig Carnelia's memorable score from Is There Life After School? A show that's evocative of a time in everyone's life, sadly overlooked at the time.

It's a surprisingly conventional musical and the satire is tame given where we are today. A revision of the book should be considered. And I do believe there might have to be a different approach re the (arguably) enjoyable Aggie number, romping and stomping...but it's a very listenable score.

I'm surprised they didn't announce the theatre tonight. The Belasco would be a perfect fit for Outlaw. But if you're going to open before late April, in a crowded season, wouldn't you know where you were going by now? Wouldn't cast members have been alerted to a rehearsal date? About "Maybe Happy Ending"...I think it might have fared better off-Broadway, looking at shows that have eventually succeeded. The buzz was very positive when it played down in Atlanta, but that was in February of 2020. The delay, caused by the pandemic, helped to erode whatever initial word of mouth the show had. It might have also benefitted from an off-Broadway engagement, which had helped shows in the past like "Avenue Q" at the Vineyard or "Dear Evan Hansen" at the Second Stage or "The B...

Our Town . It's a wonderful production and Jim Parsons is superb.

Stereophonic is a fine play and has excellent performances but I believe there are replacements about to join the company and so much is dependent on that ensemble.Our Town is such a great play and this is a beautifully realized production. Jim Parsons is giving a wonderful performance as the Stage Manager and Katie Holmes, Richard Thomas, Ephraim Sykes and Zoe Deutch are also in top-notch firm. I am a newbie to "Our Town"...I know-- everybody is familiar with it. I wasn't so I came with an open mind...and was surprised at how engrossed I was by the play. I had seen Leon's work on "Fences", "A Raisin in the Sun" , "A Soldier's Play" and "Top Dog" and I think he's one of our best directors and I was highly impressed by the production, beautifully designed and superlative performances from the large ensemble, most especially Jim Parsons, Ephraim Sykes, Zoey Deutch and Billy Eugene Jone...

I really like this play but even more so the casting. It's spot-on. That's one of the hottest trio of stars to come to Broadway in a long, long time. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot about American Buffalo and Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell and Darren Criss. Mamet sure can write the roles that attract exciting actors...

In a year full of stars coming to New York: Gyllenhaal, Washington, Clooney, Downey, Jr., Farrow and LuPone, Nicole, Audra, Darren, Nick and Adrienne, I don't know how much business this would do on Broadway. Might they be wiser in choosing an off-Broadway venue like Adam Driver is doing or Aubrey Plaza did last season. I am curious about Swept Away and Maybe Happy Ending- and Satchmo-so much of what is coming here in the fall are revivals (Sunset Boulevard, Once Upon a Mattress, Gypsy) and then there's Tammy Faye and Death Becomes Her..but the ones I'm curiou about- do they have a chance to survive in a very competitive landscape?

I have never been an aficionado of "Cats"-- my top three ALW scores are "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Evita" and "Sunset Boulevard--but this production surprised and delighted me at all levels. It should definitely move to another venue space (Circle in the Square if that is economically viable) and settle in for an extended engagement.

Damn Yankees unless the Yankees become the incredibly successful team they once or unless there's an overhaul of the libretto with more infusion of magic in the plot. And then there's the sexism of Lola.The Pajama Game- a book that almost makes Damn Yankees look unconventional. The score is superior to Damn Yankees, but how does one relate to a 71/2 cent raise. I believe they are booking a sumnmer show prior to their season. With Forbidden Broadway now forbidden to come in during the summer, it looks likely that the intriguing play JOB will be there for an interim engagement. I wonder if the producer will give the actors who did it in two off-off-Broadway venues the opportunity of creating their roles on Broadway.

and in addition to those three, one shouldn't forget Days of Wine and Roses, Tommy, and Purlie Victorious...all very good evenings of theatre.
