Lion King tour this season played Minneapolis for the Fifth time on tour (sixth time if you coun't pre-broadway).  Right now it's basically LK, Phantom, Book of Mormon and Wicked that do repeat engagements.

Thanks for answering. That is good to know. I am also predicting Hamilton will be around multiple times in the future too.

The 4th announced show of the Kimmel Center's season is The Color Purple! I'm super excited to see Waitress!

Looks like The Humans is coming to the Walnut Street Theatre(Which is a regional theater).Wonder if the tour is just coming there or they are putting on their own production.https://www.walnutstreettheatre.org/season/209th.php

Any particular reason you think we're not gonna get it next season?

Two hours until the announcement!

Nice job calling the Hamilton date!

I gotta say... this is a pretty huge disappointment. I don't care about Gloria Estfan, School of Rock, or The Bodyguard at all. Something Rotten is pretty cool, but that's the only one that interests me at all. The Special Engagements are better. I could see Lion King every year, and I guess Phantom is nice (for the 100th time).

Knowing we're getting Hamilton is amazing! Having to wait until September 2018 is less so. But I guess it makes sense. It starts in the West so won't make it to the East for a while. It was probably the earliest possible date they could have gotten.

As far as entertainment for me, Shea's isn't great (depending on casts, I may see Waitress and School of Rock) but on paper, it's a great season. The masses will be happy and they're pretty much all new EQUITY productions.

That does make me very happy. It appears all the productions coming are Equity productions. Also THE LION KING is here for an entire month.

But considering you are on a Broadway board, you aren't exactly the masses. Usual subscribers will be happy with the selection and there are no non-equity shows to be found (something that NEVER happens here in Syracuse).

To bring the list from the tweet - "School of Rock, Wicked (again), The Humans, Love Never Dies."

I'm surprised too. This isn't a very full season. Usually Madison gets more or less same shows as Chicago, so curious to see what we get. Season announcement's happening on 31st March here. Hoping to get Something Rotten and The Color Purple.

So far: Waitress, Something Rotten, Aladdin, Color Purple, School of Rock, and Finding Neverland for the Kimmel Center season. That's a pretty stellar line up to me. I do also hope Les Mis is part of the upcoming season.

^I've never seen Phantom, so I'd be okay with that. Plus, I assume it'll be at the Academy and the whole chandelier thing would be cool.

Broadway in Chicago got back to me and this upcoming season (of Wicked, The Humans, Love Never Dies and School of Rock) is more expensive than the previous season of (Escape to Margaritaville, The King and I, Something Rotten!, Les Miz and An American in Paris). Is this happening to other towns? I guess they're trying to make up for the loss of subscriptions from the Hamilton season.

It played the Academy in March-April 2014 when this new tour began. Chris Mann(My favorite singer ever) started his run as the Phantom 6 months later. It's a shame he recently left....

Shea's Buffalo has remained the same price for the past few years. Doesn't seem like HAMILTON has adjusted prices (yet).

So is Hamilton only touring Western cities before the 2018-2019 season? Is that the start of the bigger nationwide tour?

I agree re: Shea's. I was slightly disappointed but more excited than I was at this time last year when they announced this year's lineup. It's pretty cool that another show will launch their national tour here (On Your Feet). Buffalo loves its jukebox musicals (Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia!), and I can see OYF going over very well here because the music is familiar and the ending is a big fat musical mega mix.

I'm excited about Waitress and Something Rotten (I wish we would have gotten SR this season. By the time it gets here next year, it will be on to the third or fourth cast I'm thinking).

Have no desire to see Love Never Dies and will only be excited about The Bodyguard if Deborah Cox is in it.

Good to see the special engagements are solid and will be here for more than a week. And yes... 8 equity shows! Exciting.

I'm always fascinated by how different people's perception of the same experience can vary so greatly. I saw Chris Mann twice in the touring production and felt that he was easily the weakest Phantom I'd ever seen/heard (and I've seen/heard quite a few). He was far too young, far too pretty, and seemed to have the voice of a pop star who, to my ears, was unable to hit or hold the required notes. frown

For that matter, I didn't care for the "re-imagined" production either. It had a few clever moments, but the chandelier was pointless and I had completely given up on the show by the top of the second act, when Masquerade was staged without the staircase and the Phantom just strolled in wearing a facsimile of the Gerard Butler costume from the 2004 film.

Broadway in Chicago responded to me about why this season is pricier than last season with less shows:

"It is weird, isn’t it? All of our shows have independent producers that set their own prices- Wicked’s prices are quite high. The other shows in the season are pretty normal, but Wicked sends the package price up further than the last season (which had 5 pretty averaged priced shows). There’s no set price or amount of shows for a season- they’re different every time depending on what is coming through town/what will be the biggest draws. Wicked has not been part of a package since it debuted a decade ago, but it’s still a very popular show- more so than the newer shows that it’s packaged with- and the prices reflect that.

I hope that gives you some insight."
