No need for the hostility, "jimnysf".
There is a bug around even though it is summer. Someone I know got it recently, and he was knocked down for several days. It was not pleasant.
If Fantasia is sick, it takes more than 1 day to recover.
Hold up, Virgo. I don't have anything against Fantasia, so you don't need to get super defensive. I've never watched American Idol, and my only exposure to Fantasia was when I saw her in THE COLOR PURPLE.
Question: have you seen her in the show? Because from your post, it sounds like you're just a fan of hers based on her previous work and not because of her work specifically in this show.

I'm a fan of her previous work and the work that I've seen her do for the TCP in various promo appearances and of course, the reviews.
Unfortunately, won't see her live in TCP, hopefully Oprah will bring it to the big screen. Unless, you or Oprah want to Fly me to NY for an all expenses paid trip to see TCP starring Fantasia. Are you interested? Cuz I surely would go and catch a few others at that. (of course I'm just kidding here, I don't expect anyone to pay)
Oops, I didn't see the part where foster saw her in TCP. Anyway, I like Fantasia and think she's talented but that's not going to get me to go to NY to see her in TCP, some of her fans are doing that but my priorities don't lay in seeing Fantasia in TCP, I've got other things going on. If I lived there or were going on business between now and January, I'd see her though, because based on the reviews, it's a performance that is not to be missed. I'll be missing it but in a way, I kinda feel like I've seen it because there's so much information about her performance on line. I did see clips and they were good.

Have you seen the show?
- Um Foster clearly said he saw the show with Fantasia. Why did you ask him that?
Okay Virgo, then don't try to start a debate with me on Fantasia's performance in THE COLOR PURPLE when you have not seen Fantasia's performance in THE COLOR PURPLE.
The level of defensiveness that you displayed here and the books that you wrote in the posts following mine in this thread after I made a simple comment about Fantasia's performance in THE COLOR PURPLE are an absolute joke if you have not even seen her performance!

Oh Foster, now I see why you've got a bit of an attitude. You're the person who said "she struggles with every song other then "I'm Here". Which is why she only sings "I'm Here" at promotional appearances. Well dear, one doesn't have to actually see the show to know she sings "I'm Here" because it's only one of two solo's she has. You ever heard of doing research and reading?
Not trying to debate you at all, but I'd never read anything in all the raves that remotely said anything about her "struggling " with all the songs.
Perhaps she was sick the day you saw her and you need to go back.
PS: I actually didn't type most of the message on the previous page. I used this nifty feature called "cute and paste".
Talk about defensive. Anyway, I'm done with Fantasia and Purple, I now have a new favorite. It's called Hairspray.
Well next time, see the show for yourself and state your own opinions instead of someone else's. If you can't see the show, don't expect people to give validity to vague defenses, without sources, that are clearly not yours. I was stating my opinion based on first-hand experience seeing and hearing Fantasia sing the whole score, live, during press week. That is my research.
Saw the show last night for the first time and I too was disappointed when I walked up to will call and saw the handwritten "Fantasia out all week" sign. The window guy said "What do you want to do?" and my friend and I said, "Um... see the show?" Guess some people were exchanging tickets.
Saycon Sengbloh was on and she was fantastic.

Actually, I'm not a specialist in theatre so I feel confident taking a theatre critics point over my own (or even yours because you're being way to emotional in your defense). Professional critics don't rant and get all emotional. They just give you the goods and what's really happening in that theatre. Honestly, if she sang the entire score I could definitely see her struggling (or anyone) that's a big job and had you said that in your original post, I would have skipped. But you didn't, you said she struggles and that's why she can only sing "I'm Here" at promotional appearances, that's totally different. Which I nicely asked what you meant, I never said I saw her, but you took so much offense to it that you are really discredited in my eyes honey. I really don't care if you did see it, you are too over the top with your smart ass remarks.
Now please move on. You claim to have seen it, I didn't. Big deal. I have no desire to see it. But the critics did love her giving her 100% raves and that's not my opinion, that's a fact. I wonder when was the last time a person who struggled with the entire score, receive 100% rave critic reviews. Then her acting must be on fire then, or perhaps you just have extra wax in your ears? j/k please don't snap again.
Really we should all move on from Fantasia in TCP. The critics reviews are in (all raves), she's already won the theatre world award, can't win the tony. I wonder what she'll do next.
Celie has three solo songs, the two already mentioned plus "Lily of the Field"...Not counting "Dear God-Sofia" and "Dear God-Shug". But she sings solo in nearly every song in the show.
Oh, and isn't "Color Purple- Reprise" her solo before it becomes an ensemble number?

Is Fantasia back yet?
If not, is Saycon doing all the shows in Fantasia's absence, or is there another cover performing some of the shows, too?
oh my god! all this infighting.... where is OPRAH and her va jay jay when you need it?
Foster, don't waste your breath. Plenty of people on here are so easily brainwashed by critics and 'my best friend's mom's friend's sister who saw the show and talked to so and so at the stage door, that they will be glad to verbally take down those of us who have actually seen the show. Look at all the adoration for Christine Ebersole. I recently found out that one of her most staunch supporters since the opening, who argued with me on the merits of her performance hadn't actually seen the show until the last few weeks of the run.
My heart truly goes out to the BWWers who can't get to NYC to see these shows. I consider myself lucky. However, please don't infer that someone's opinion is incorrect when they have seen a show and you haven't.

LOL! You can't argue with the Fan Girls (Rent, Wicked, TCP, etc.). They just know what they know and to hell with what others want to say.

Sorry but you sound extremely gullible and easily fooled. So you're saying that one who hasn't seen the show should ignore all the critics and countless others even folks who were never a fan who have written blogs and reviews, raving on message boards in detail of what they saw, over a person who has NEVER reviewed the performance and just posted in here saying "she messes up the ENTIRE score"? Yeah, I should listen to that NOT! Here's a clue, if you want someone to read and take what you say seriously you should present your self in a believable manner.
Additionally, you really need to read what's going on here before you jump into comment. I simply asked her a question about how many songs were in TCP, she got defensive and extremely snotty with me, and turned it into a fight of which it wasn't meant to be. Another reason why I had to doubt what she wrote, extreme defensiveness when there is no need is almost always a sign of a liar.

Fantasia is back
For now, maybe but I am sure she'll be out again!
Virgo, my initial comment wasn't even directed towards you. You went and made it about you.
And by the way, I'm a he, not a she.
"Seems she has excuse after excuse."
I know a lot of actors have to deal with having young kids, but she has a young girl too; her child should come first.
For now, maybe but I am sure she'll be out again!
I'm sure she will, it'd only be natural between now and January 2008. Give the girl some credit; she's missed, what, a dozen performances thus far, and for good reason? Fan of her work or not, she obviously loves her job and pours every ounce of what she's got into a taxing role.
...So is she still out in August?
And will she be out on the 12th or is she returning on the 12th?

Wanna Be a Foster-
I strongly disagree that Fantasia "struggles" with songs throughout the show. She shines in every song she sings and every note that she hits during the show. I can say I am somewhat of an expert having seen the show prior to Fantasia's casting and during. The show goes to a whole new level with her in the role. Her singing is outstanding and what has suprised everyone I have talked to who has seen it - her acting is a revelation.
I know you want to "hate" Fantasia. But give the girl credit where credit is due. She is a hard working singer and now actress. Her absences have all been justified and reasonable.
ETA: Fantasia performed on Saturday evening and was great according to someone who saw the show. Seems like she is back.

Shot in the dark, but does anybody know who will be playing Celie at the matinee on Sunday? I'd love to see Darlesia play Celie.

LOL! I doubt that those "fans" who took a bus 10 hours each way to see her feel the same way. And she HAS been out a lot considering the amount of time she has been in the show. She needs to develop a better work ethic and stick to it!
