"I'm the confuser! 'Is it a man? Is it a woman? Oh, I'm not sure if I mind!'"
Ohhh that would rock my world. :3
The problem is, now that Brand's name has been brought up, I'm going to be mentally casting this with British comics rather than anyone more likely. Hohum. ^_^
He doesn't have to be attractive in any way, shape, or form. Tim Curry was (and is) hardly attractive. He made it work because of the craziness. The transvestitism was just the icing on the cake compared to the mood swings, the temper tantrums, the weirdness in general, which Curry portrayed so brilliantly. He's a parody of a mad scientist who happens to wear fishnets and embody some bisexual stereotypes of the Fifties, not a bombshell.

Totally disagree.
First-Curry was damn hot in the film. He was so attractive that everyone wanted and had him. This wouldn't have happened if an overweight and unattractive person played Frank.
Second, Tim Curry has become less attractive in the conventional way since then, and of course is a great character actor. That being said, as one of the people who was in the original cast who acted out the film in front of the screen at the 8th St. Playhouse, and the official photographer for the group, we got to know Tim Curry pretty well and supported him in his acting endeavors as well as with the two rock albums he made.
Mick Jagger + Joan Crawford = Tim Curry in ROCKY HORROR.
Irreplaceable.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
Here's the "not the least bit attractive" Tim Curry during the Rocky Horror days. He was performing his rock album at the old Bottom Line in the village.
Ah, yes, the extremely unattractive Mr. Curry as William Shakespeare in a British TV miniseries...
Anyone doubting Tim Curry's attractiveness and sex appeal in Rocky Horror should search out any of the myriad videos of the film's "Sweet Transvestite" on That Site and check out the viewer comments. The man was scorching hot in that film, and among the film's fans, that's hardly a minority opinion.
I know pretty much nothing about Russell Brand, so I can't say much more about him than that he could look the part. Whether he can play the part is the question. There's a lot more to performing that role than just prancing around in drag - to play it successfully, the actor needs charisma, talent and technique (as Tim himself put it in an interview with Plays and Players magazine in the show's early London days, "Frank n Furter is a great personality role, but at the same time it's a great technical challenge. You have to do it with such style and precision to make it work."). Oh, and a singing voice. Yeah, can't forget that.
Oh, and Jane2, you are my new hero. How exciting those early days at the Eighth Street must have been!
I think it's important to not get an obviously flamboyant or camp guy to play the part.
Apart from Tim's obvious talent, he works because you wouldn't think of him doing it.
It almost makes the character more appealing BECAUSE Tim isn't this even remotely flamboyant person.
Again I saw, I love Russell Brand - he's one of the funniest and wittiest comedians out there, but he's no actor and this choice would be so obvious and uninspired I don't see the point of going there. There's almost no intrigue because you can imagine it so easily.
However if they said...I don't know, Russell Crowe....it gets you thinking and interested to see how the hell that will work.
Those pictures are great quality screen shots. That said, I fail to see anything attractive about the man. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
