According to Broadway.com she's planning to release an album of rock covers. I like a lot of the songs listed, so I'll be sure to buy it. Broadway.com story
There are a few clips on youtube under Daily Practice with Alice Ripley. Here "I Am a Rock" is FANTASTIC. I was hoping she would release this! Good Stuff!
She sang a lot of these rock covers at her free concert at Arena Stage a few months ago to celebrate its homecoming. It left some of the audience perplexed (many walkouts- perhaps from people expecting her to do songs from musicals like the other acts). I am not a fan of the music, but it definitely worked with her voice style.

I was at the free Arena Stage concert as well, and as KChen said, she did many of these covers. I was also expecting her to do songs from musicals, but I didn't walk out, as it was my first time seeing her live. She was very hippie-ish, which I hadn't known, so overall it was nothing I expected. Not terrible though, as her voice works for the songs.
And now there's an official release date of February 15th. And it seems that that photo will be the album artwork since that's what's posted on Sh-K-Boom. And the fact that it's labeled Volume 1 makes me excited for a Volume 2. Daily Practice - Volume 1
I think she took the picture of herself with her phone and posted it on her Facebook page. I wouldn't be surprised if it is the cover, although I do agree that it's pretty rough looking.
