I don't really know which board to post this on, but since Reeve Carney fans probably frequent this board I'll drop it here:
Carney has been cast in Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"
Penny Dreadful" revolves around some of literature's famed monsters -- including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and figures from the Dracula -- weaving together classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation. Link
Interesting. Matthew James Thomas, who was Reeve's alternate when Spider Man first opened, also played Dorian Gray a few years ago. They're obviously similar kinds of actors (like how Marin Mazzie and Alice Ripley often play the same roles-- Margaret White in Carrie and Diana in Next to Normal), though in my opinion, MJT is the more talented of the two.
He was at the VMAs, sitting next to Taylor Swift. He starred in her video for I Knew You Were Trouble. She thanked him by name when she won some award or another on the show.
Thanks to the 1940's black and white movie (with Angela Lansbury's debut) Hurd Hatfield will always be Dorian Grey for me. He had such a classically beautiful, slightly sinister face, that suited the story perfectly.
I love that movie, even if it fails to capture the story for me on Wilde's terms (I prefer the serialized version anyway before he beefed up the female roles partly for deflection.)
This show has a good pedigree and the videos seem interesting--I hope it's a more coherent alternative to that other cable horror show.
