I don't really know which board to post this on, but since Reeve Carney fans probably frequent this board I'll drop it here:

Carney has been cast in Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

Penny Dreadful" revolves around some of literature's famed monsters -- including Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and figures from the Dracula -- weaving together classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation.

I guess he's pretty enough to play Dorian Gray. He wouldn't have been my first choice though.

Interesting. Matthew James Thomas, who was Reeve's alternate when Spider Man first opened, also played Dorian Gray a few years ago. They're obviously similar kinds of actors (like how Marin Mazzie and Alice Ripley often play the same roles-- Margaret White in Carrie and Diana in Next to Normal), though in my opinion, MJT is the more talented of the two.

Interesting.

Maybe if MJT wasn't committed to Pippin he would have been up for this role too.

The series sounds cool. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Side note - I'm pretty sure Reeve Carney was Taylor Swift's date to the VMAs on Sunday. I'm sure that's been discussed elsewhere, though.

I didn't know he was so focused on acting: I remember at the beginning of Spiderman, it was all about his band.

He was at the VMAs, sitting next to Taylor Swift. He starred in her video for I Knew You Were Trouble. She thanked him by name when she won some award or another on the show.

Very nice. According to IMDB he is only in one episode though.

I'm so excited for this, I adore Eva Green.

It's been a while since I read it, but WTF does a snake have to do with Dorian Gray?!

Where does it say he's in one episode?

Then it was updated recently because about a month ago when they showed the promo after Shameless, it only said he was in one episode.

He's skilled enough to play the portrait.

Thanks to the 1940's black and white movie (with Angela Lansbury's debut) Hurd Hatfield will always be Dorian Grey for me. He had such a classically beautiful, slightly sinister face, that suited the story perfectly.

I love that movie, even if it fails to capture the story for me on Wilde's terms (I prefer the serialized version anyway before he beefed up the female roles partly for deflection.)

This show has a good pedigree and the videos seem interesting--I hope it's a more coherent alternative to that other cable horror show.
