I don't hink the rights being out mean anything. Beauty and the Beast, Elf, The Grinch, Chicago, and countless others have toured with the rights available.
I just read that Louisville will announce their season on February 19th which is about 3 weeks earlier than last year. I am so excited to find out what amazing shows we get this next season!
I font think we have ever heard that early before! I am 99 percent positive we are getting Kinky Boots. Cyndi mentioned it when she was here with Cher and when I asked the Broadway Across America rep. If we were getting it, she gave a silly kind of "I don't know?" and then gave a very obvious wink. I wouldn't be surprised if Louisville got Wicked again. It's been almost 3 years and it always sells out.
I honestly don't know. There are a lot of great shows going out, and I'm pretty easy to please. I wouldn't be surprised if Chicago came back. It's been years since it's been here.
Chicago goes to the smaller market a lot in Lexington now, though, so I don't really see it coming back to Louisville. It was in Lexington just last year.
What's the most shows your theatre has had in a season, not including random concerts???
The Pantages Theatre (here in LA) had 11 in the 2012-2013 season, had 9 in the 2013-2014 season, has 7 in THIS season, & HOPEFULLY this upcoming 2015-2016 has more shows.. because we've been getting less shows a season by the years.
Shows here usually run for 3 weeks, but every holiday we get a BIG show like The Book of Mormon, The Lion King, or Wicked that run for usually 3 months.
The Addams Family was in Lexington in March 2013 then it was announced it was opening Louisville's season that October. I actually saw it on both it's Kentucky stops! Anything can happen.
I think the most Louisville has gotten is 6 or 7 but it's usually 5 and sometimes there are 1 or 2 season extras. Usually the longest runs we ever have are 2 weeks, which is rare in itself, but Lion King IS getting 3 weeks. Our concerts are part of a completely different series. So consider yourself lucky you average anywhere from 7 to 11! :)
Orlando usually gets six, with an add-on or two. This year we have two add-ons (Book of Mormon and Beauty and the Beast). Of our 6 shows this year, two of them are non-equity (Anything Goes and I Love Lucy: the Musical). The equity tours this season are Phantom, Newsies, Motown, and Pippin. Everything is here for a week this year, except Phantom (which inexplicably got 2 weeks) and Mormom, which also has two weeks.
Incidentally, Newsies is easily the best seller thus far, well outpacing even Book of Mormon. Most perfomances are already sold out.
I wonder what year it was that things got so bad, short-lived flops like Bridges (100 performances), Ghost (136) and Bullets (156) were considered viable touring material.
