Someone made a thread about this earlier, but it seemed more like a joke to me so here's a real one. I mentioned that billy porter would be my dream Angelica if they ever decide to genderbend.

I find the overall imbalance in the amount of work available to men versus women in theatre (over 70% male) to be highly embarrassing given that it's 2016. The ratio has barely budged since the '50s. If there is any gender bending in Hamilton, IMHO it needs to be more women playing the male roles.
Her dialect in "Kinky Boots" was not supposed to be a plain British one, it was a specific North Hampton dialect from a professional dialect coach. She isn't bad at dialects, the creative team decided to give all of the factory workers dialects from poorer places in London.
They/them.

Why would one of the most successful shows in the history of Broadway need to do something gimmicky?
Maybe in 2024, to squeeze a few more dollars out of a satiated audience, but until then, why would you want to do this?
(And as to the percentage of roles for men and for women -- the decision on what gets produced on Broadway (or at the corner storefront stage) is way beyond my input. Many have said this before -- producers put on shows that they think they can make money from. I don't think a Broadway producer would turn down a change to make money based on anything else.)

I never said her dialect was supposed to be "plain British". I'm very familiar with many different British dialects. That's probably why I noticed that she didn't do it very well. I assume you mean Northampton (one word), which is northwest of London halfway to Birmingham. Annaleigh's dialect sounded like a blend of two or three British dialects with an American lilt. It annoys me, but it may not annoy others. And it happens all the time. Annaleigh didn't get nearly as much flack as Patti LuPone did years ago.

And Northampton I assume, since it isn't in London.

You mean 99% of high school theater programs in America?
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
BTW....LMM stated in an interview, that at schools he fully expects this to happen. You know, in 2112, when licensing becomes available. (This is the time and circumstance that he was thought white peeps would play the roles.)
