For those there tonight - what an evening! I'm off to bed in a moment, but just wanted to post that John had the entire place in stitches (and the palm of his hand) from the moment he lept onto the stage. This was no ordinary "cabaret" - in fact, there are no real words to describe John's show - a combination of the absurd and Spalding Grey - mixed with appropriate songs when neccessary. I hope he does the show again, and soon so more people can attend. The venue was relatively small and was packed to the gills.
"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men" - Willy Wonka
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
spotted in the audience were Michael Arden, Natalie Joy Johnson, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Marc Shaiman, Scott Wittman, David Finkle, Wayman Wong, Julie Halston, Harris Doran and I'm sure plenty more...

It takes a certain amount of brilliance to be that touched in the head and unashamed to share the fruits of the absurdity that is your brain function.
IOW, I haven't laughed that hard in ages. John has found his calling, letting the voices in his head channel through him like a vessel. What a fabulously entertaining one man acid trip he is. (Well, backed up by some great folks as well.)
"Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run" - Jeff Buckley
Anything that starts off with Hollaback Girl, veers into some Asia, Looking Glass, Tori Amos and Little Mermaid and involves plastic body parts, wigs and sarongs really is something not to be missed.

He is the guy I would go gay for. He is SOOO damn funny and Jhonny and Kooks make me wet myself...especially "Mating" and "Ballad of the dumpster baby".
I can't believe I missed this. Stupid weird tasting cake making me sick.
*cries again*
"... Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth.
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt. Still a little hard to say what's going on..." Damien Rice
Yeah, SportPoose--good one! It was a fun night. He's a livewire and I like it! Any show in which a performer beats a stool with fisting dildos is just fine by me!
It's eckspecially apropos
So if you really want to know
Do I love you?
Don't aks.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

OK, this might be a stupid question, but how do you find out about these things? I'd have killed to get a chance to see this but I was 100% ignorant of it occurring.
"Jane, I've been dealt a blow - I've been dealt a blow, Jane."
TheatreDiva90016, are you playing games with my mind or does Johnny really like boys? What a blessing he'd be for the gay community. :) I know he used to be a shirtless waiter at XL before he got his first Broadway gig. YUMMY!
