It's an awards show, not an Italian restaurant.

I could not agree more. I suppose it is the English major coming out in me.
I guess it's not Tonies either.

Well, if you get multiple awards then I guess it would be "tonies". It's just that it's not a possessive. . .it's not like Tony owns these awards and is giving them out.
But the rules for plural nouns don't apply to certain plural proper nouns. Enough of that.
Pretend it's a contraction Tony for Tony and 's for AwardS - Tony's

I have a huge debate in my head every time I type it out; my inner grammarian goes insane. But since the common name is short for the Antoinette Perry Awards, wouldn't it technically be an "'s" in the possessive sense, as they are her awards?
I could be wrong.
Bump dammit

I'm with broadwaybaby. My brain wants to explode when I contemplate the proper form of the word.
I mean, it COULD be thought of in a possessive sense which would warrant the apostrophe. They are Tony's Awards afterall.
^That's why I always typed "Tony Awards" instead. It drove me crazy.

depends on the sentence, no?
History Boys take home 5 Tonys.
The Tony's set has been used 3 times.

They are THE TONY Awards.
Tony does not own them. If he did, then that would warrant an apostrophe

well in the example I gave where I used an apostrophe, its the set used (owned if you will) by the awards show, and thus why I used it.
Tony btw, was a she...
depends on the sentence, no?
Yes, but 90% of the time, the use is the incorrect one.
I love all of the grammar and spelling corrections.
this was something i truly never thought about before, hmm... now i might go insane thinking about it. thanks, everyone.
It's not Tonys or Tony's!
It's Tonies!
Agree, but I don't think this needed a thread...
Well, then, perhaps another thread about who everyone's favorite Elphaba is, or what showtune they should play at their wedding.

Actually the possesive form for the Tony Awards set would be Tonys' set because it is plural.

Wow. I'm a stickler for correct English, but even I have learned that there really isn't a point to trying to correct people on the internet.
Of course there is! You can be harsh in the name of education.
