Hickey's epic final monologue in ICEMAN COMETH is really one long, 20 minute breakdown on stage.

Tobias in the final monologue in Albee's A DELICATE BALANCE.

Hallie, Sam and Willie in the climactic scene of Fugard's MASTER HAROLD..... and the boys.

My personal favorite breakdown is Salieri's at the end of the first act of AMADEUS. F*cking genius.

How about Stanley standing at the bottom of the stairs screaming "Stella!!!" in Act One of STREETCAR? Brando's performance of that is probably one of the most iconic moments ever in the American theatre.

I'm sorry...what was the name of that play again? I don't think I know it.

Didn't you star in the sequel?

I most certainly did not.

It was, however, directly based an my real experiences when I was...how shall I say? A 'working girl' back in the mid 90's.

Romeo, away, be gone!
The citizens are up, and Tybalt slain.--
Stand not amaz'd. The prince will doom thee death
If thou art taken. Hence, be gone, away!

Romeo.
O, I AM FORTUNE'S FOOL!

Benvolio.
Why dost thou stay?

[Exit Romeo.]

This whole thread needs a spoiler warning. It's very interesting, but I think I just experienced by proxy the dramatic climax of several great dramas I still have yet to see. Serves me right for continuing to read after, "He shoots himself in the end"! Ha ha. Fortunately, I'd already seen that one.

Margo, you don't know me, but welcome back anyway. I had missed your well-informed posting.

I was thinking about Butley in "Butley." The whole play is sort of a downward spiral for him.

I was just involved in a production of a not very well known Lanford Wilson play called "Serenading Louie." The whole thing is a meltdown...
