Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.

Idina is good enough, and sure she could sing it...
But she does NOT have the comic timing for this part at all.
"I trained as a classical actor at Juilliard. I jump at the opportunity to do classical text...But I never in a million years guessed I'd get to play Juliet!"- Michael Arden
Don't shoot me, but why not? Vanessa Williams doesn't exactly has astounding comic timing. Menzel could sing the role (not perfectly, but she could definitely do it.)
But I really would like to see Erin Davie as the Baker's Wife.
Vanessa Williams doesn't exactly has astounding comic timing. Have you ever seen UGLY BETTY?
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
That said... I don't think Idina is suited for the role.
Where did this come from anyway?
"TO LOVE ANOTHER PERSON IS TO SEE THE FACE OF GOD"- LES MISERABLES---
"THERE'S A SPECIAL KIND OF PEOPLE KNOWN AS SHOW PEOPLE... WE'RE BORN EVERY NIGHT AT HALF HOUR CALL!"--- CURTAINS
I am not a fan of Idina Menzel. I find the hero worship bestowed upon her post-WICKED completely unwarranted, and though she was simply astonishing in LaChiusa's SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE, she's underwhelmed me in almost everything prior to and since.
That said, I actually think she could work as The Witch. She could easily sing the score, and has the right amount of charisma and presence to pull off such a role. It would certainly be against-type casting that probably would never happen in a million years, but that's not to say she's ill-suited for the part.
About the comedic timing issue-- whose to say she doesn't have any? The girl's barely done any comedy in her entire career, and I for one found her pretty damn funny during her scenes as Maureen when I saw her in RENT years ago.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
Well I was thinking about her after seeing "Enchanted" last night, and I thought if her film career takes off more after this, and "Sweeney Todd" is a big hit, then who knows, an "Into The Woods" film couldn't be THAT far fetched, and I could see it happening. I don't see it as against her type at all, actually.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
