Ouch! Those are some harsh words!! I didn't think it would do well though.

How long does anyone think it will be before tickets pop up on TKTS?

Well, so much for Disney keeping their numbers secret.

I am pretty sure we won't see Zambello touch ANYTHING Disney, even with a ten foot pole, EVER again.

The costume line is pretty spot-on, I have to admit. I can't help but think what they would have looked like if they could have gotten Ann Hould-Ward for this. I think she did a great job on B&TB.

I bet the show will last for a while though.

What numbers are they keeping secret?

the reviews won't really affect the show's gross. Even in cases where the parents may have read the reviews, the conversation would still go like this:

5 year old girl: I wanna go see Little Mermaid.
Dad: I don't know honey, Brantley seemed to not like it very much. Maybe we should go to...
5 year old girl: AAAAHHHHHH WANNA SEE MERMAID!
Mom: Let's go to Mermaid.
Dad: Ok.

This show may not run as long as Beauty, but it will be around for years.

I could care less about reviews for shows. I'm still going to see the show with a positve outlook. I don't need someone to form an opinion on a show for me; I'll form that myself. Updated On: 1/11/08 at 12:07 AM

What numbers are they keeping secret?

Disney doesn't release their budget or ever announce when they recoup.

I really hope these reviews don't discourage the cast, especially Sherie Rene Scott who I've heard nothing but the best about in this production!

I actually enjoyed the show, but my kids didn't!

I liked it because I thought it was bizarre. I like bizarre.

Sherie Rene Scott is a big talent, all the critics have stated that. But unfortunately it seems she has a show/role that is far inferior to her talents.

Sherie Renee Scott is the show's greatest asset...plus the "garish" sets and costumes, about which, again, I say "Bizarre!" In a good way.

It reminded me of when I used to visit my Italian relatives as a kid and was totally awed by their gaudy, tasteless, plastic decor. BIZARRE...and FUN! (As long as I didn't have to live there.re: THE LITTLE MERMAID Reviews)

I'm THRILLED by these reviews!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Brantley should win a Pultizer Prize for his MERMAID review.

you can't be serious. Brantley didn't even care enough about the show to bring a great deal of wit to his insults. He has written much more eloquent scathing reviews than that.

And I would question anyone (yes, even an esteemed professional critic) who saw absolutely nothing to praise on that stage.

A semi-related question... I saw the show right before the strike... Is the show curtain still that black-cut-out deal? -Which, alas, ended up setting the tone for me right from the beginning.

<< Sherie Rene Scott is a big talent, all the critics have stated that. But unfortunately it seems she has a show/role that is far inferior to her talents. >>

SERIOUSLY?! Ursula, the Sea Witch is a role "far inferior" to an actress's talents? Even with a poor book, this is one of the juiciest characters a performer could sink her (or even his) teeth into. There is so much to work with there. Imagine what Carole Shelley, Lainie Kazan, Kathleen Turner, Jenny Galloway, Sara Ramirez, etc, etc, etc, would have brought to this role.

I'm sorry, but I don't really understand the general adoration for Ms. Scott. She sure can sing, I'll give you that! But her acting simply isn't there. Thank God for Brantley's comment: "The unfortunate Ms. Scott, a brassy young Broadway veteran (“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” “Aida”), has eight octopuslike tentacles to contend with, which may account for the bizarre mutability of her accent, which shifts among Cockney, plummy English, Brooklynese and Zsa Zsa Gabor Hungarian." She doesn't even keep a consistent character voice in this production. Other critics have also commented on how her Ursula gives nothing to fear. Instead of playing a delicious villainess, she's playing someone's Brooklyn Jewish mother who seems to have a multiple personality disorder to boot.

Like her or not, she's simply miscast here and I don't think she does the character any kind of justice.

- The MOVIE Ursula was. You're making it sound like this is the new Mama Rose or Mrs. Lovett. Sherie deserves something more suited to her talents. She was sensational in DRS. Someone originally said this a while ago, but she would be a FANTASTIC Witch in "Into The Woods." Too bad that was already revived in 2002.
