Young Frankenstein isn't as awful as everyone would have you believe. Mel's a dick, and the show is loud and obnoxious, but at least the cast is dedicated.

I find it funny that the top shows on the list are some of the most successful in history. Can't help but think there is some sour grapes action going on and not true feelings. Either that they simply haven't seen that many shows.

Or perhaps they have never seen a live production of the show. And some shows are simply bashed because it's trendy to hate on the show or the composer attached to the show.

For example, I don't really get all the Cats hatred unless they simply saw a bad production or only the DVD. Cats has been the top pick for most hated show since it surpassed A Chorus Line for longest-running Broadway musical title. And the Lloyd Webber hatred really gained speed around the same time. I admit I was not a huge fan of the score, but when I saw the show in London staged in its original environment, I totally got it. It was charming and magical and I was utterly entranced. I know it's the show people love to hate, but I can't help but feel that some (but maybe not all) of that hatred is either misinformed, biased or simply disingenuous.

Umm, I've seen Phantom. I like some ALW shows and I am not just hating on ALW because it's trendy.

Oh shoot, I had forgotten about The Lion King and All Shook Up.

Eh, I'm still going with Phantom.

While there are certainly worse shows, my least favorite has to be BRIGADOON.

I love Lerner and Loewe. But I hate that show.

I'm totally floored to see Chorus Line with a vote. I always thought that was the one musical that NO ONE hated.

I have to throw my vote to Brooklyn, the Musical. I still twitch when I think about it. Though I don't think it ever hit New York, Martin Guerre is a verrrrry close runner-up.

Either I'm really easily entertained or I've just done a pretty good job of picking what shows I've seen but the one show that I didn't really get all the hype for was Spamalot.

I've seen Spelling Bee on Broadway, Light in the Piazza on PBS and the tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (w/Butz) and I've yet to figure out why Spamalot won that year. And I did see the tour so maybe it just wasn't a very good cast but I didn't find all that much funny about it.
