"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I think it's awesome - but why two male songs and one female song? "Stars and the Moon" is overdone but why not "Christmas Lullaby". And outside of Songs for a New World there's "And I Will Follow" or maybe "Letting You Go"

Can't wait to hear the submissions, though.

Aw man, I wish that JRB wrote songs for legit sopranos.

"Christmas Lullaby" would be a lot better for my voice than "I'm Not Afraid."

Hahah reading it totally inspired me to record myself with the tracks playing... WOW. BAD idea, Sam.

hahah I JUST finished reading about that contest before signing on on here.
yeah, bad choices JRB.
Two similar-[ish] guy songs and one not-so-rangy women's song?
oh well, I'm interested to listen to the entries.

Typical, it's the one show of his (that's been released properly on CD anyway) that I don't know very well. Booo!

Although I do know 'She Cries'. Think I should give it a bash, despite being a lassie? re: Jason Robert Brown Posts Singing Contest On His Blog

Why would you want to listen to a song you love be butchered by deluded people all over the world?

I love how he breathes along with the music.

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.

Wow, Jess, that was fantastic! Thank you for cementing my decision not to enter--I'll leave the belting to the experts. re: Jason Robert Brown Posts Singing Contest On His Blog

If I can do it, you can do it. :)

I am DEFINITELY a legit soprano, not a belter. But I think it sounds decent:

Okay, guys, I finally gave in and posted my own entry.

I'm off at times and, again, this is not ideal for my voice type! But I tried my best. Like you guys said, it's just for fun. re: Jason Robert Brown Posts Singing Contest On His Blog

Edit: Oh, if for some reason you want to vote for me, my name is Katie.
