Textbook Clintonian pick. Not too controversial; would make a good POTUS if something were to happen to Hillary, speaks Spanish fluently, and a very popular former mayor of the City of Richmond/governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia which is now a persistent swing state. On balance, he's a safe choice. He doesn't add to her tally of negatives.
Team Clinton/Kaine
The risk factor for some of the picks (Brown, Warren, Booker) was less about ideology and more about replacement by a GOP governor.
Oh, well, he's good on women, gays and guns.
I'll take him.
And immigration. He's good on immigration too.

Hillary should keep preaching about the top 1% [which she is in] and preaching about the dangers and horrors of income inequality...while in a $12,000+ jacket....hmmmm so out of touch with reality.
Also, how disgusting the DNC and Wasserman-Schultz behaved towards and treated Bernie is despicable. The system was completely rigged against him. They're all a bunch of nasty snakes.
Reality is relative...
Hillary is savvy enough to strike a conciliatory note that will resonate with as much of the electorate as possible to guarantee victory come November. The alternative is to cut off her party's nose to spite its face which is the political equivalent of purity rings. So far, Hillary's electoral calculus seems to be just fine as she's her party's nominee.
Steady as she goes, Hills!
Last night, Rachel Maddow interviewed three liberals, trying to get a feel for their opinion of Kaine. Cecile Richards and Joan Walsh were both 100% behind him. Only Ben Jealous had reservations, and he came across as a disgruntled Bernie Bro.
Saw it and was rather disappointed by Jealous' lack of enthusiasm for Hillary's pick. Sour grapes are never in season.
Michael Tomasky on the Daily Beast on why Time Kaine is good:

An unispired choice. Hooray for another all white ticket! But it makes Wall Street happy so not a surprise.
Kaine pick draws mixed reviews from liberals
While Wall Street lobbyists rejoice, progressive groups are less than thrilled.

Meanwhile the good/smart folks at 538 now have Trump at 40%
http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/
Has their prediction changed?
Their numbers have changef dramatically over the last few weeks. Polls have tightened since Comey made his remarks about the emails. Numbers will be in flux until after the Dem convention.
Kaine is wildly popular in VA among the traditional base and palatable to politically-closeted-Trump-hating-moderate-GOP-voters in northern VA. I'm confident he'll help the ticket bring VA back into the fold which will make FL a must-win for Trump. I recall your watching Maddow last night. Steve Kornacki, who's a helluva lot smarter than I'll ever be on the topic, broke down the path to 270 brilliantly.
ETA: At the end of the day, it all boils down to math. www.270towin.com puts it right out there in a way that I can understand. There are 85 winning combinations for Clinton-Kaine to 72 for Trump-Pence.
Oops. I posted in the wrong thread. I thought Kaines speech today from Miami was perfection. I'm excited.
Responded already but thanks for sharing, DAME!
I thought Kaine's introduction was well done. Parts of his speech were clearly calculated to pull on the heart strings, but they were effective and at times inspiring. I wish he had been on the campaign trail with Hillary all along. She can impress with policy and take the high road. They balance each other well.
The general perception seems to be that after listening to his speech today, everyone is pretty much completely won over.
Tim Kaine, much to my surprise, has proven to be an excellent choice. And, as one friend said, "the wisdom of the choice only makes me feel more respect for the woman who made it."
Is Warren no longer speaking at all?
Kaine and Warren need to be added to that lineup. As much as Warren seems to enjoy trolling Trump, I hope she's not strictly negative. She has a unique gift for explaing complex issues in simple terms without seeming to condescend, and I'd hate to see that squandered.
Is there an official keynote?
PalJoey said: "Here's the lineup! ... "
I'm surprised Kaine isn't listed. (Full lineup here: https://www.demconvention.com/event-categories/july-25/  Is that because they haven't updated the schedule since the announcement, or did he already cover all they needed him to say this afternoon?
Warren said on Colbert that she is speaking on Monday. What night is Oprah on?
Oprah and Warren aren't listed yet. Biden is on Wednesday.
And for those up above on this thread who questioned her commitment to police, this guy is speaking on Tuesday:
Joe Sweeney
Joe, of New York, NY, was a detective with the NYPD on September 11, 2001. When the towers were hit, he rushed down to the World Trade Center and began digging through the rubble for survivors.
PJ, your real identity is Chelsea Clinton.
Why aren't warren and Oprah listed yet? And where is kaine? Is he a late add on?
