I'm willing to give Melania a free pass, but replace Trump and Newt in the pic below for a glimpse of the mother of all nightmares. Karl was only the Deputy Chief of Staff. Imagine Newt as gatekeeper.
Blast from the past...
Thiel is the worst kind of queer person, the sort that sidelines their identity and turns their back on the community's needs and concerns in order to be accepted- gay but not, like, that gay. I don't for a second believe he is proud to be gay. I believe he's proud to be wealthy and influential. If he were proud, he would've spoken up about the heinous platform the party and candidate he's endorsed are now obligated to uphold.
Michael Moore, who's always been a bit of a pessimist, seems to believe Trump is going to win. He listed his reasons on Bill Maher the other day. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I don't really see it happening.
I'm not making any predictions until after the Democrat's convention is well underway. The Philly Police Union has already come out against Hillary's choice of invited speakers. FauxNews will have a field day.
Clinton invites families of blacks killed by police to speak at convention by Dave Boyer for the Washington Times
Trump is promoting himself as the "law and order" candidate, a la Nixon. Clinton should present herself as the "justice" candidate.
I'm hardly anti-police, but man, their unions issue terrible statements.
Did anyone else see Jon Stewart on the Colbert Show last night?

He was brilliant as always. We NEED his voice in this election to cut through the bs and speak truth against all the crap spewing from the right. I like Trevor Noah, but no one does it as well Stewart.
I agree, Kad. I'm stunned that there are no reports of her extending an invitation to at least one widow(er) of a slain officer. Perhaps her camp did and I'm just not up-to-date. I'm worried that Hillary's adversaries will paint her as anti-police.
I hate to politicize the horrific act of terror in Munich today, but I worry that with every successive terrorist attack in the West, a Trump presidency becomes more of a possibility. And if there is another attack on US soil before November, I think the danger becomes even more real.
The Foxys of the world live in waking terror that they're next. Using logic with people like this is useless. Telling them that a traditional war cannot defeat an ideology; that banning all migrants, refugees or, even, Muslims from entering a country is not going to prevent attacks when many of them are committed by longtime permanent residents and citizens; that they have a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being killed by a terrorist; that there are limits to what a President can do to prevent these less centralized ISIS-inspired attacks. None of that will work when you have a blustering strongman with authoritarian tendencies screaming from the wings that he will personally strangle every single Islamic terrorist in the world. I don't think we should underestimate how much fear could motivate voters in swing states to look past the many vile things Trump has said and done in order to feel safer.
I've greatly appreciated the compassion and nuance that Hillary's displayed in the past several weeks when talking publicly about complex, thorny, painful issues like police brutality. That said, with those Foxy-style voters in mind, I hope that she puts her toughness on full display in the weeks ahead and, perhaps, makes another brilliant speech that focuses solely on how she is the better candidate to protect Americans from terrorist attacks.
Pretty soon the talk will be of war. We're in a war. All bets are off. We're going to have to be particularly brutal if we are going to win this war. It has been declared on us, and we're just responding. That is the story that will be sold in the next months. Obama has done nothing to prevent this war and that is why it happened. That is what stupid America is going to believe.

She'll have to. I've written before that as POTUS she'll have no choice but tack right of Obama when it comes to foreign affairs. In the loathsome words of my boss, she'll be Thatcher in a pant suit. Sadly, it seems that the world looks to the West for a final arbiter in international matters. With the UK wandering in the wilderness for a spell, Angela Merkel politically kaput, Italy endlessly battling internal corruption, and the French being French, the task falls upon the POTUS by default. That is why the upcoming general election is of paramount importance to the entire globe.
Friends and enemies alike need to see a balance of creative problem-solving, military might, and statecraft orchestrated by an unflappable POTUS. Hillary was born for the job.

Horse Tears,
You very eloquently stated what I have been thinking. I'm afraid that will happen too. Too many people want an immediate solution that involves "war." And yet we can't possibly fight a traditional war to defeat an ideology. We created part of the problem with our invasions and the rhetoric now is likely to make it worse. But that won't stop many from wanted a quick solution. There is no quick answer and Hillary needs to tread carefully. But I have full confidence in her. I just wish I was as sure about enough others.
I was just think about Donald's inauguration if he is the winner and about the limo ride he and Obama will have to take to the capital building and Melania's and Michelle's ride and how awkward both would be to just witness.

I'm really torn on even if I should waste my time voting, I don't want to vote for either of these awful horrible candidates . it's sad that these 2 are the best we could come up with.
If you live in a swing state, not voting is a vote.
Isn't it the height of stupidity that my vote matters more? Like yours HT. We have stupid written into our voting process.

I live here, which means New York will be for Hillary which makes me feel like it's even more pointless to go bother when I don't want her or trump.
Basically your vote means nothing if you live in 40 states. Sad.
Your Presidential vote, perhaps. But let's not lose sight of Congressional, State Assembly and local government elections. And, honestly, that image PJ posted upthread is worth reposting again:
I stepped away from my computer before reading HT's post above.
It only took one day for Trump to act stupid again with another tirade against Cruz using The National Enquirer as his source. However, I do believe that continued terror attacks do work in Trumps favor. It may be, as PJ says, that only Sunnis can stop ISIS but the average American isn't going to see it that way.
HRC picked Kaine.
Ehh. Boring and uninspired choice.
Agreed. That Pence v. Kaine Debate night isn't going to be much of a nail-biter either way.
Agree Adam. It was pretty obvious that's who she was going to pick (68 wiki edits today alone, like 90 this week) and I understand why she picked him.
I personally was hoping for Sherrod Brown but I knew that was a long shot of the final shortlist. After Brown, I was hoping Booker or Warren. But Kaine does make sense, even if it's boring and uninspiring.
