As many of you know, I hardly go to see movies, theatre is my thing, and after seeing "Failure to Launch" last week, I almost thought I would never go back to pay to see a movie. "She is the Man" was very predictible, cheesy, silly and corny, a movie that has been done before ("LadyBug" with the deceased Jonathan Brandis is a good example). But i loved it!!! it was very funny, and Amanda Bynes shows that probably she is the best actress of her generation (yes, over Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Duff), plus anyone whoever is attracted to men will be delighted with the hunks of the film. Two thumbs up!!!

When I first saw the preview to this movie I was like "Oh no", but now that I've seen the previews a few times, I actually want to see this movie.
it was fun...not a great movie...but i laughed my a** off.
For me, nothing can ever beat Just One of the Guys. Love that movie.
i haven't seen that one, but im sure it's funny.
Do you intend all your posts to have a smug undertone to them, or are you unaware of this?
Bynes a better actress than Lindsay Lohan - I disagree. I STRONGLY disagree about Johannson. I think she's one of the best younger actresses we have - not even in the same league.
well..they are all the same age. Scarlett gets better roles though.
Also, Jonathan Brandis is deceased, not diseased. And Scarlett gets better roles because she is more talented.
I saw this tonight as well. Very cute, of course cheesy/predictable but I love these kinds of movies. They're all based on Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," as is All Shook Up (totally unrelated but the thought occurred to me in the car). That's why they're all so similar...if anyone's seen the Disney channel movie "Motocrossed" (another one I love), I see all the aspects of the plot are the same, with slightly different stories obviously.
I wouldn't say Bynes is the most talented of her generation, and well, I just don't group Scarlett with the others...like I think Lohan has proven to be a better actress but I haven't liked her at all past Mean Girls, with the new hair, and music and bleh. Never liked Hilary Duff. So currently out of the 3, Amanda is my favorite.
Oh and I agree muscle, I was laughing a LOT for this kind of movie.
I thought it was super cute. Plus the eye candy didn't hurt!!! damn!!! those guys were HOT!
muscle23ftl: Putting Scarlett Johansson in the same league as Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan, and Hilary Duff? That's a little off, I think. hehe.
I was pretty willing to see 'She's The Man' - the trailer looked cute and I think I was the only one I know who picked up on the Shakespeare. But I thought the movie was simply awful, and a little disapointing. Sure, some parts were cute, a few were witty, I laughed at maybe two things out loud and there were hot guys in it, but on a whole, there are way too many movies like this, and that in itself is a problem already.
Then again, judging by the way my sister and my friend reacted to the movie compared to mine, I shouldn't have expected to like it. Now I know not to see their "type" of movies.

My favorite review I've seen of this gave the movie a half a star and called it: "She's the Man: Stupid, even for teenyboppers!"
The last sentence is my very favorite

The adverts for it announce that it's based on Shakespeare's "12th Night," so I don't know how anyone could not have picked up on it. But good point about "Motocrossed" -- I used to LOVE that movie!! Haha, never thought of it in this context though, I guess cuz it didn't say so in the commercial. :P *facepalm*
Wait, never thought of which in this context, and what commercial?

Ohh okay. I didn't think of it either but it's more than just the basic plots that are similar--other guys and girls and twists and such in the plot follow the exact same suit, so when I saw it, there's no way I couldn't make the connection.

I would consider Jena Malone the best actress of that generation.
Amanda Bynes shows that probably she is the best actress of her generation (yes, over Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Duff)
I disagree on all counts. Well, I agree about Duff.
When i took drama lessons, my teacher would say, it takes a good actor to make the audience laugh. It doesn't take a good actor to make the audience cry. I bet Johansson couldn't be as funny as Bynes in a movie like that. Everything im saying. Even though the movie is not a great movie.

Just wondering, what was your drama teachers reason for her opinion?

I would be willing to take that bet and that's without having seen "She Is The Man," because, you know, I'm not stupid.
But what I HAVE seen was Scarlett Johansen hosting SNL this season and she was the star of the funniest sketch they have done all year, The Sweet Sixteen sketch. She delivered the single funniest line of the season in that sketch and she was pretty damned hilarious in the rest of the show as well.
Not exactly sure what your drama teacher would advise you to do regarding the wager.

umm, actually, it does take a good actor to make you cry.
I think a more accurate way to phrase that would be:
It takes a good actor (with good delivery, timing, and a good script) to make the audience laugh. It takes an ok actor (with a great script and a good tone to the movie) to make the audience cry.
Hmm, doesn't pack as much punch.
Scarlett and Jena and even Mandy Moore (that’s right, I said it) are in a completely different league than Lindsay, Amanda and Hillary, but I do think that Amanda is a very good comedic actress, especially for her age.
