I thought he was rooting for him, munk. You know, "Come on!" as in "You go, girl!"
i don't think he was the best director. His nomination rings of sentimentality.
We're your dreamgirls. Boys, we'll make you happy........
*starts to sob*
I couldn't disagree more. It really happened. It looked real. What else did you want to happen?
WORLD TRADE CENTER was directed with nauseating sentimentality. Not UNITED 93.
I feel bad for Wickedrocks, he reminds me of myself - when I was very young and believed movies like BEACHES and EVITA could be big Oscar winners.
Following the awards race Wickedrocks is often a heartbreaking enterprise - but you'll get better. Keep at it!
The WTC trailer made me want to call the schmaltz police.

My only huge gripe is that I think the supporting actor category. But, it was a tough year for supporting actor roles.
I would've especially loved to see James McAvoy -- who gave the most layered performance I saw from any supporting actor this year.
But, the winners for the major categories will go like this (not that they should):
Picture = Babel
Actor = Whitaker
Actress = Mirren
Supporting Actor = Murphy
Supporting Actress = Hudson
Direction = Scorcese
Original SP = Peter Morgan, The Queen
Adapted SP = William Monahan, The Departer
Documentary = An Inconvenient Truth
Foreign Film = Pan's Labyrinth
The only ones of these I'm not 100% sure of are the screenplays (you never know with the academy), best picture (could be iwo jima), and supporting actor (could be haley).
Did you see the film? When Jesus Christ appeared to the the cop I almost pissed myself.
I think your predictions are right on, touch, though I think you really could see an Eastwood upset - particularly in Best Director. They just don't like Scorcese very much in Hollywood.
Thanks, Michael Bennett! :)
And yes, that scene in WTC was a joke.
United 93 was leaps and bounds better and sharper than WTC will ever be.
No, I haven't, munk. In fact, I haven't seen either movie, but UNITED 93 is on my list.
Munk, i didn't say greengrass' directing rang of sentimentality, said his nomination did.
Oh, I misread.
No it doesn't. He deserves it, and almost everyone predicted it. He was a huge frontrunner for a long period of time.

If Clint Eastwood wins again I will PUKE!

Bennett, I don't think it's that they don't like Scorcese...people actually love him. They just always think there were better films made that year. I mean, if you look at the history of who has beaten him as best director, it's pretty easy to see why he hasn't won. There were more deserving films made.
And this year is no different.
All of the directors against him did better work.
That is true, touch, but from talking to AMPAS voters - he really isn't very liked. He's kind of the wierd kid on the playground everyone picks on. And Eastwood is like the homecoming king-jock-valedictorian all in one.
I just don't see the Academy giving it to Eastwood a third time.
I think they will want to recognize The Departed some way other than screenplay, and by giving it to Scorsese, they will solve that, plus honor someone who's long overdue.
I don't see Little Miss Sunshine upsetting, simply because of the lack of a Best Director nomination.
Only Grand Hotel and Driving Miss Daisy (and maybe one other?) have won the top prize without a directing nomination.
Touchme--I think your list is right on.
If there were to be an upset in Best Picture... I could see it going to The Queen, however. It's a "little" film, but I found no faults with it other than its lack of scope and size.

Martin is appreciated for the work he does regarding film preservation. Other than that, I think he's merely tolerated.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who has found him to be grossly overrated as a director.
Again, I don't think THE QUEEN will win because its not message driven enough.
I'm not completely convinced they will feel the need to honor THE DEPARTED over screenplay - the film missed out on a lot of potential nominations indiciating that there may not be as strong a support for it as well originally thought.
I hope he doesn't win, but his momentum is almost unstoppable at this point.
But I agree...his only film that I ever actually felt anything during was RAGING BULL.
Would someone explain to me what difference it makes to you, what gets nominated or what wins? It's the definitive example of I couldn't care less, for me.
You keep poking your little head in here saying the exact same thing, almost daily.
Now that you have gone all but ignored every time, you still feel the need to come back and act like you are somehow more human, smarter, or more couth becuase you don't care about the Oscars?
You don't care about the Oscars, so why do you care that we care? Just GO AWAY.
Well I couldn't care less who wins the PGA golf tour, could someone explain to me why people do?

I dunno, mb, my AMPAS contacts are excited to actually be able to vote for him this year. I guess there are pockets of resistance. I don't think any of the other films are good enough to warrant not voting for the Scorcese career.
