I wish I could watch it. I've asked this before, but are the announcements streamed live on the internet?
DREAMGIRLS NOT NOMINATED FOR BEST PICTURE!!!!!!!!
hey, cnn.com is running a live video stream of the announcements.
Very cool all of the Pan's Labyrinth nominees! And no Beyonce. But no Dreamgirls for best picture??
eta: way cool Abigail Breslin!
and Helen vs Meryl is going to be *tough*- they could end up splitting the votes and give some third place choice the win.

Dreamgirls not nominated for Best Director either!!
What the hell? Seriously no Dreamgirls? Little Miss Sunshine instead? wtf wtf wtf.
I am considering boycotting
Ugh, there are NO GOOD NOMINEES in Best Picture. WTF? I thought we had a lock for Dreamgirls!

Letters from Iwo Jima
...Iwo Jima was the best picture I've seen all year...that's the flick that stole the spot from Dreamgirls...

How did VOLVER not get a Best Foreign Language Film nomination???
HOLY CRAP!! LETTERS pushed in over DREAMGIRLS!!
And KUDOS to the Academy for voting for Dicaprio for BLOOD DIAMOND over DEPARTED, the far superior performance, IMHO!
Damn! I missed it by a hair. Thanks anyway, Anakela.
DREAMGIRLS got the most nominations, but no Best Picture? WTF?
DREAMGIRLS leads with 8 nominations. They are NOT for Best Picture, Directing, Screenplay, nor Makeup.
AMPAS got a lot of things right this year, but a few MAJOR things wrong!!
How on earth can Borat get an Adapted Screenplay nomination and not Thank You For Smoking?!? Not to mention the talented people in Stranger Than Fiction who got snubbed (Will Ferrel, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, the screenwriter).
How did Dreamgirls not get nominated?
It's a musical, and it's a "black story."
'Nuf said.
I think I just lost interest in the awards this year myself.
Leonardo DiCaprio, BLOOD DIAMOND
Ugh. What an inferior piece of work. So much better in The Departed.
And how the f*ck did Volver not get nominated?!?!
DREAMGIRLS got the most nominations, but no Best Picture? WTF?
Yeah, that is really wierd.
Almost forgot:
The Academy are stupid heads for not nominating Flushed Away for Best Animated Feature!

Dreamgirls was a very good film. Deserving to be in a class with Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima, etc? Hardly.
Psssh, I'm sure as hell not watching now...
One more thing:
As much as I liked Alan Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine, I thought Steve Carell in the same film was the better performance. I am also way surprised that Mark Wahlberg got a nomination for Departed instead of Jack Nicholson.
"It's a musical, and it's a "black story." "
That's BS. Explain Ray. Explain Moulin Rouge and Chicago. I think Dreamgirls suffered coming off of Ray and Walk the Line. Even though it was fiction, it was yet another musical biopic in their eyes is my guess.

Okay, Ray, Moulin Rouge and Chicago...
...in what... the last 25 years?
Yeah, that's great odds, Jerby.
See my post on the main page about how AMPAS does their voting (by rank) and you'll see how DREAMGIRLS or any film can get the most noms but still lose out on Best Picture.
A surprisingly low turnout for THE DEPARTED.
Looks like BABEL has this in the bag, though watch out for CLINT!!
Frankly, I'm thrilled that Letters bumped Dreamgirls (I think the next in line would have been The Queen, and I would have been livid if Dreamgirls got in ahead of that...I know people complain about it being TV-movie-esque, but I thought it was one of the most overall solid film of the year...I thought Dreamgirls was a HUGE disappointment).
SHOCKED that Volver was snubbed for Best Foreign Language film. If that had made it in, I'd have been able to see all the nominees this year (a first for me), since The Lives of Others and Days of Glory are going to be coming around in the next couple weeks (and Water's on DVD).
Anyone know what Dreamgirls' other nominations are. Did they get two Best Song nominations? Ugh!
ETA: Nevermind, that last bit...I see the first post has been updated.
I think that it's just that there were a lot of really fabulous choices this year and Dreamgirls just got pushed aside in the shuffle. I'm still pissed, but I can see how it could happen. When going p against individual actors, yes, it could do well, but up agaiinst really fantastic films it's difficult to place Dreamgirls with films like BABEL and IWO JIMA, not necessarily becuase of their quality but becuase they are the type of films that the Academy nominated for the most part.
