umm you lost credibility? in the oscars? that sentence makes little to no sense. To you mean the Oscars have lost credibility, to you?
'Little Miss Sunshine' is the poster child for the 'it's an honor to be nominated' idea. Great, wonderful movie ... but it's not going to win Best Picture.
Neither 'Children of Men' nor 'Pan's Labyrinth' got nominations for their directors. The Academy clearly hates Mexicans too.
Munk---You're brayin' like a donkey.
Not all of us have changed our opinion about Dreamgirls, BTW.
You're right.
But isn't Inarritu Mexican?
Yeah, Munk. Gloating doesn't become you.
MOONLIGHT becomes you, however.
Although United 93 is my pick for Best Dierection, I would not mind seeing Scorcese win at last. I respect his work for The Departed, even though I think the movie is rather overrated.
What, I'm just being silly with Cruel.
What are you talking about? And if you didn't change your opinion, then I'm not talking about you. Clearly.
LOL! That was awesome, b12b!

I am disappointed that Dreamgirls didn't get recognized in the Best Picture lineup. It isn't the perfect movie, or the best movie musical ever, but I am truly surpised.
I am however excited to see that Mark Wahlberg worked his way into Best Supporting Actor. His performance was quite good.
"But isn't Inarritu Mexican?"
Tokenism at best. :)
My post is NOT about Dreamgirls-
Happy that JESUS CAMP and DELIVER US FROM EVIL both got doc noms, a little sad that SHUT UP AND SING did not.
That's all.
I thought most of the noms went about as expected--though I was shocked by the girls and Condon's shut-out. But the film hadn't received the kind of reviews that CHICAGO got, so why vote for it? (at least in the minds of the Academy)
Cruel, I don't think there is such a thing as the Academy committe as far as these nominations go: each branch nominates according to their respective categories and then all the members vote on the nominees. Correct me if I'm wrong...
I think it'll go
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE for Pic
SCORCESE
O'TOOLE
MIRREN
HUDSON
ARKIN
DEPARTED-A Screen (don't be shocked if Borat wins)
SUNSHINE-O Screen
I'm swingin for the fences with Arkin and O'Toole, but I'm a gambling man...
I was upset for Dreamgirls as musical films are very tricky to make! And Bill Condon did a superb job! The film IS a very stylistic period piece that is flashy, good entertainment and a great storyline. Not to mention the Brilliant performances, that do not JUST come from the actors but the Director who steers them into his vision for the particular film!
Now I haven't seen Letters From Iwo Jima, but come on must Clint Eastwood be nominated every year...I suppose the same could be said by 1/2 of the nominees on the list.
I was glad to see Little Miss Sunshine take more awards than I expected, but it is sad to see Dreamgirls missing from Best Picture. Wow, I hope that Dreamgirls takes one of the best songs, it would be a shame if they lose, having 3 nominations and lost to Cars.
"I am however excited to see that Mark Wahlberg worked his way into Best Supporting Actor."
Shh, don't tell husk_charmer. You'll dig him an early grave.
I think DREAMGIRLS will win Song--probably for Listen...
I don't think DREAMGIRLS will win best song - simply because, they actually deserve to win.
James Taylor wrote the CARS song - does he have an Oscar yet?
Melissa Etheridge is the other one. Breast cancer survivor, lesbian (we're not homophobes, see, here's the oscar!)
Or, DREAMGIRLS as a consolation prize.
But my money is on Etheridge for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
lildogs - you have too much "sentiment" in your predictions. Remember that the Oscar voters think their job is very important. They pick films they think have a message.
BP will be BABEL or JIMA
Sentiment may carry Arkin or O'Toole, but probably not both.
And Scorcese is very vulnerable.
Once the DGA is awarded, we'll be able to better predict the director Oscar.
But I hope Greengrass gets the Oscar. Or Inarritu.
Would be awesome to have Arkin or O'Toole win, I'll root for O'Toole, but I am sure Forrest is a shoe in.
If it goes to greengrass i may kill myself.
Meanwhile, where's Prince's nomination? Where's the outcry?
Come on Greengrass!
Why don't you want Greengrass to win? I mean, he probably won't win. But his direction was pristine.
