Gotta love the way the GOP is mishandling this. To immediately politicize this within 24 hours of Scalia's death is downright stupid, and it will not sit well with independent voters.

What amazing news. I guess prayer really does work. I wonder if Loretta Lynch is on Obama's shortlist. She was pretty swiftly approved as his AG nominee, making it more challenging for Republicans to then obstruct her nomination to the Supreme Court. I don't know enough about Lynch to figure where she likely lands on the political scale. Left of center, I presume? Anyone?

Reports are coming in that the Obama intends to nominate an associate justice which has certainly made him the most hated person in the country by the right. I support the decision with the GOP possibly headed for a brokered convention and things so unsettled on the Dem side of the ledger. In a worst-case scenario, without that appointment there could be a 4-4 court deciding the outcome of Cruz (or Trump) v Clinton (or Sanders) akin to Bush v Gore. Oh, the horror!

Of course he's going to nominate somebody! He has nearly a whole year left in office - surely if the Republicans successfully block it for a year it will make them look worse than they already do. If they actually succeed, I hope President Clinton promptly nominates Obama and the newly elected Democrat-controlled congress give him a smooth passage. That'd serve the pricks right. Ah, to dream!

NY Daily News says that the shortlist is likely to include Loretta Lynch, First Circuit Court of Appeals Judge David Barron, and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals judge Sri Srinivasan.

Wait, according to my own hasty research, it took 167 days to confirm, which was a record delay, in fact. The previous longest was only 30 days. Ted Cruz missed the vote, though, which would make it harder for him to whine.

I realize that it's date night for some but I implore each of you to tune into the televised GOP debate from Charleston, SC starting at 9 PM. Check local listings for details. And lets keep a tally of how many times Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush invoke the name of Antonin Scalia.
