This came up on another thread and I have to ask about it. We've got Applebees' around here and they're all geared toward the suburban family crowd. So how does an Applebees make sense in Manhattan? Anyone ever been? Have they 'New Yorked' it up? I just can't picture it there...
I know this is odd and unimportant, but I'm very curious.
I've been to the one on 42nd and the one on 50th. Its just like any other Applebees but the stuff on the walls is broadway or sports from new york teams. I love that place.

It is in Times Square. It makes sense. You bring your kids to NYC and you see a restaurant with a familiar menu!

Ok, I guess it works as a tourist thing.
But still. *blinks* How strange. Broadway paraphanalia would get me to go, though. I was in a pizza place once with signed show posters all along one wall. I was very entertained while waiting for my food.
I just realized that I've been to one. After all of that drama!
Oh the Worlds Largest one is the one on 50th

Bythesword, I just realized you said you love that place . . . I didn't mean any disrespect by calling it unadventurous to eat there! Since you live in NYC, it's not unadventurous of you to go there, but we were visiting from out of town and I was annoyed that my friend didn't want to try to find something that we couldn't get back home.
Holy mother of God, I wanted to personally slap every person on both my high school NYC trips who set foot in Applebees or any other chain. You're IN NEW YORK. WE HAVE APPLEBEES BACK HOME.
Wow, Just wow. People worrying about Applebee's in NYC. Again, I have to say...just wow!
I know that the 5th grade from my one school ate at the Applebees at Times Square. And for them that was the perfect solution...reserved seating for a large group, and stuff elementary school kids would eat. Still....it does seem to be a little "anti-NYC"

Marquise, I said it was inconsequential. Are we not allowed to discuss frivlous topics on this board?
That's why I said wow! Just when I thought it couldn't get anymore frivolous...WHAM! BAM! you come up with this! I mean I'm amazed!

Marquise . . . is discussing Applebee's more frivolous than discussing boxers and q-tips?
I think Liotte and I ate at this Applebee's?
I ate at the Applebee's on 50th. I was forced into it. It is SO DAMN EXPENSIVE. Geez.
I'm pretty sure this was the one...it's a block or two away from the Nederlander?
But yes...it IS expensive...but it was the inflation I expected in New York....

There are Applebee's all over Manhattan.
No Jilani because at least that's in a BANAL THREAD, which is the WHOLE POINT!
If you knew that you wouldn't have bothered to ask.

Marquise, my post was meant to be playful and good-natured, hence the wink. I know you were posting those items in the "banal" thread. But most of the off-topic threads are pretty banal. Hopefully, we're all here to have fun - no one's saving the world on the BWW message boards; that's what our day jobs are for! :)
Is the service as bad there as it is in every other Applebees?
Its worse, because in this one the sadistic hosts get to make you climb up 4 flights of stairs to the top floor...
We have lost Ho Jo's & gained Applebee's . It does not compute
I was kinda shocked when my family came to visit one year and wanted to go there for dinner - I guess it's the familiarity of being able to get what you like, but if I were traveling to another city (or country, for that matter) I'd avoid the commercial establishments at all costs and go for the mom-and-pop, outta-the-way places that deliver special attention and good cooking, and dishes you don't get every day of your life.
ugh, I won't even eat at the one here........hate that chain
It is absolutely insane for anyone to eat at an Applebee's in one of the food capitals of the world. The food is at best pedestrian and the prices are quite high considering you're eating food that is being defrosted or out of a plastic bag.
Of course, foregn tourists I'm sure are intrigued; I can't imagine a family from Duluth eating there on vacation, but they do!
