Ahhh, I thought if there was going to be one show that PSH lost out, it might be the BAFTAs. I thought Ralf Finnes might have pulled off a win for The Constant Gardener. Ah well.
Congrats to all the winners! It was nice to see a couple of different winners slip in there.
Did any of the American actors actually show up?
Gyllenhaal was there to accept his award. Reese wasn't (Christina Ricci accepted it on her behalf). Hang on, I'll post a link to the pix of people at the ceremony.

If Philip Seymour Hoffman does not win the Oscar, you will hear my scream from the other side of the country.
SallyBrown, that's how I feel about Reese Witherspoon.

well, thats how i feel about Felicity.
EDIT
damn you jerby for typing faster.
So basically someone will be screaming on Oscar night.
Not me. Because Philip will win. HE WILL WIN.

also, I'll be screaming is BBM wins best picture cause it was not the best picture of the year. (oh, and if Jake gyllenhall wins I'll be screaming cause he wasn't the best supporting actor Either).
So basically zoney will have something to scream about on Oscar Night.
And not the good way.
No no no, supporting has to go to George Clooney. Jake will have another chance.
See, for some reason, I feel like Phil might not win. There's something about the tear he's gone on, that gives me visions of an upset. I honestly don't know who that would be though. From reading stuff on-line, it sounds like Joaquin Phoenix, while still far, far behind, is the one gaining (if you could even say that) on Phil. Though, Heath could always win if it's going to be a big BBM sweep type of year. Then there's Strathairn who's quietly built an incredible body of work, which could be rewarded by this career performance. Or maybe Howard could come out of nowhere.
Or maybe Phil will just keep plugging along and all of this will be moot.
I know Mabel, that's what's been worrying me! He must win though. He must.
I think PSH will win. I'll be happy for whoever wins that category, though, because I enjoy all the actors nominated.
I'm very torn between Phil and Joaquin. I've been a fan of Phil's for much longer than I have of Joaquin, and an actor always gets that extra edge for me once I've seen them live on stage. BUT, there was just something about Joaquin's performance that got me. My loyalties do kind of lie with PSH, yet it wouldn't crush me if Joaquin won (or Strathairn for the "seen him live" factor). I liked Heath and Terrence, but I'd rather one of the other three to win over them.
I'm still up in the air with Best Actress. I've been waiting for timing to work on seeing Transamerica, and it hasn't happened yet. The poor college student in me insists on movie hopping, so that I'm able to catch 2 movies per trip to the cineplex, and damn that Transamerica, it just doesn't have good coinciding timing with other movies! No matter what, I'll see it before the 5th though. I still need to see Munich too.

WHY did they nominate Rachel Weisz for her supporting role in Constant Gardener in the Leading Actress category?
YAY JAKE.
Yay Jake as well. :)
And double yay for Harry Potter!

Thank you for the explanation, popcultureboy, because I was just about to make a Thandie Newton WHA? kind of post. I mean, I like her, but Weisz's performance in The Constant Gardener instantly catapulted her into my "adored actors" category.
