I know that the BAFTA has a different pool of voters, but perhaps Rachel doesn't have as many supporters as originally thought. But I'm sure it hurt her that she wasn't in the supporting category. Even still, she was predicted to win by almost everyone.
I hope this really gives Jake a leg up on the Oscar competition.
Surely it does give Jake some real hope for the Oscars. And surely this impressive showing in England will have the Focus folks finding new ways to promote the film the next two weeks, for any late-to-mail voters. (Which dropped out of the top ten for the first time since Christmas -- but still has pulled in 70 million domestially already.)
wait, dos this mean that reese has finally left ryan, come out of the closet and embraced her future as mrs. christina ricci?

Woo-hoo!
I was watching coverage of this on E! today and one of the ladies interviewing the stars annoyed the crap out of me...
OMG, that woman on E! was ridiculous!!! Did you hear her tell Imelda Staunton that she'd put her shoes on for her interviews "when more important people (like George Clooney) show up"??? What a wench!
YES!!! And when she told that guy to leave, she had "more famous" people to talk to. GUH! And I was a bit shocked at what she said to Felicity Huffman and her husband. Just little things like "OH WOW I didn't know you two were married!" I mean...what are they supposed to say to that? Shouldn't she, the interviewer, have a little background before they put some dress on her and give her a mic?

Oh, how Hollywood. Sycophants, ahoy!
I didn't get to hear it all, because about 15 minutes in the sound went out on my TV, but I did hear the Staunton comment.
Apparantly she was a comedian? I never would have known...
Jake Gyllenhaal won the best supporting actor prize for playing Jack Twist, one of two cowpokes who fall in love over the course of a Wyoming summer.
Gyllenhaal said onstage that the movie, whose commercial success is unprecedented for a gay-themed film, "means even more to me socially than it does artistically."
"I've had a lot of people say to me after the film, to my surprise, 'Thank you for making it,'" Gyllenhaal told reporters backstage. "It's made a social impression, and that social impression to me is the aftermath of an artistic impression, and so much more important."
Classy guy. Classy Speech.

Ruby Wax was the woman on the red carpet - and she was brilliant. She has been co-writing Ab Fab with Jennifer Saunders for years - but the fact is she is incredibly in your face and knowledgeable about the people that face her on the carpet in a toungue and cheek fashion is something that no one in America will ever be able to get away with. Which is why you will be groaning about Madame Seacrest on E for years.
And yes - Jake got my class vote with his discussion with Ruby on the carpet of his being a lifeguard and the Jellyfish incident. Not in the US - no matter who is asking the questions.
Oh yes that was her name...I'm not familiar with her obviously.
Wow, congratulations to Jake! Totally unexpected. His chances at an Oscar look mighty good right now, but then again, I expect him to get it since his family is really well-known among Academy members.

Sally - did YOU know huffman and William Macy were married? I did not, and still Ruby's comment about them being married was much better than Isaac to Hillary Swank when he asked if she was now getting out and partying since she and Chad had broken up.
I think the fact that everyone bantered back with her was proof that the red carpet is only a superficial American thing. I loved it when Imelda Staunten suggested that Ikea made Ruby's dress for the evening - brilliant.
Yes I knew that they were married.
And you're most likely correct in every aspect. I'm not familiar with anything but American E! so I probably was quick to judge. Or maybe I wasn't. I suppose I'll take your word for it.

No - Sally - we all have our opinions, there is nothing to say that yours is wrong and mine is right or vice - versa. In my book - you are a star for your opinions. I have learned a lot from you here - and I thank you for that!
I thought Felicity and Bill Macy was pretty common knowledge, especially after this awards season with so many appearances with them walking the carpet together. I don't mean to be snarky, so I'm sorry if it came off that way.
I'll give it to you that Imelda was able to zing her back, and as I said, my sound went out shortly after Imelda, so I wasn't able to hear what she said to the others (or what they had to say in response). But, from what I did see, I wasn't overly impressed. Though, it's certainly not as if she was any worse than her American equivalents. And finally, YES! Isaac was so far beyond out of line with his comments towards Hillary Swank (and Charlize for that matter) that I would be shocked and appalled if he actually shows up on another E! red carpet. He was rude, unfunny, and a complete joke. Not that the red carpet is any pillar of decorum, but still!
Really? I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I almost snorted there. While I do appreciate that, I do think that in this case I'll have to bow down because I don't think it's fair for me to form opinions against people, especially not really kind ones, without really knowing what they're all about. I have a tendency to judge off of first impressions.

Sally - we all do. hahaha. That might be part of the problem.
And Mabel - if I have Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin (who I love) and Starr Jones and Ryan - (no talent but I am an opportunist) Seacrest on a Red Carpet - I would still take Ruby Wax. LOL.
once again, the BRITISH awards were a pleasure to watch! (unlike OSCAR night, which is sheer torture.)
and as far as the OSCAR's go, i just hope BROKEWIND MOUNTAIN at least get honorable mention for editing

Bokeback is still considered the favorite for Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. If there is any kind of huge upset (CRASH!), Brokeback is still assured of winning Best Adapted Screenplay, where is won't be competing with Crash.
I'm glad the Brits honored Thandie Newton, who was ignored by the Oscar voters.
The STUPID nomination of Weisz in the leading category ensured she wouldn't win, had she been nominated in the supporting category, Newton wouldn't have stood a chance.
