Kind of hard to see Norman in present day so cannot see how this is a prequel.
One of the police officers who came to the cabin looked a lot like perkins. I thought it might be his but it was another actor.

They just keep telling me I have to get over that, Roxy. I was ready to make my peace with it when I realized it's just a remake that starts much earlier than Psycho, but songanddanceman dismissed me for it.

I have not dismissed it Namo, that is your opinion, i just made a comment that you won't shut up about it yet you have made your point. If you keep saying it i think you believe that all who don't share that opinion will come around to your way of thinking, you know, because Namo is always right.

No and no. I didn't hate it like I hated Girls (and never watched it again after the first episode) and I hated The New Normal, which should be gone by now, is it?
You don't seem to want discussion that evolves, you seem to want to be able to stake a claim on an opinion and never let it shift or grow. I wasn't making a statement over and over, I was trying to figure it out and understand why the senseless time shift didn't bother anybody. Granted, your completely logical "you have to ignore this major component" ie "get over it" stated your case, which is that you are GOING TO LOVE IT NO MATTER WHAT. That's the only explanation of why I would think you would be so insistent that you "get it" when I don't even get it. I'm trying to figure it out.

I don't believe i said 'you have to ignore it' i just said i didn't think it was a big deal. Psycho was not 'set' in a specific time it was set in modern day when it came out, the same as this one, that is the way i see it anyway, though i can see why people would be bothered by it.
And as for following your posts and been the Anti Namo, that's a tad rich coming from you dear since that's all you have done for years whenever i post about Madonna is it not.
And as for Girls, i have never seen it so can't comment. New Normal has got better i think but that show is dead anyway.

But that IS setting it in a specific time--it played into the rules of 1960 culture. (I have similar problems when people, including the writers, update Company, saying that it was meant ot be set "now" and so shouldn't be a period piece.) As the remake showed, a lot of the movie didn't work updated. Now this is a different thing entirely, but I think it's still a valid point as to why it was done.

But, Eric, the remake was so bad on every other front than the update to a contemporary setting was just one item in a long list of things that didn't work. Yes, Julianne Moore wearing those terrible 90s headphones in her first scene is laughable and the fact that it's in color takes a lot from the story, but overall I believe the problems with the remake are "timeless," it'd have been a bad movie regardless of when it was made.
There are issues that come out in PSYCHO due to the fact that it's set in the 1960s, even Marion's fate is largely read in scholarship as a punishment for "transgressing" in the first part of the movie (ie sleeping with a married man, stealing money). And that last scene where we get basically a pop psychology explanation of Norman's behavior is very 60s as well. However, I'd argue that while certain things about the story are lost in the time period, there's something intriguing about telling a story about those characters in today's day and age, especially with the approach they're taking in this series (with the out of date costumes, style, etc). I don't know, it totally works for me, I'm glad they didn't try to recreate the 1960s, in that case I feel everyone would be complaining about all the anachronisms in the show.

Well yes, it's unfair to just bring one thing up against the remake. But the setting update made no sense (or that it was so faithful, but then added parts that just seemed weird--the headphones, Norman jerking off, etc) Why bother doing a faithful remake as an "experiment" and then make those changes anyway...

It's been a long time since I've seen it (since it was in theatres actually), but Norman spies on Marian undressing througha hole in the wall and we hear him open his pants and hear the sound of, what I think can only be interpretated as him jerking off.
