BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

I can't wait! Hopefully I can find it on streaming. Someone's gonna get shot if it's not on Hulu!

I love it already!! I wonder if it "works" if one has never seen Psycho? Is there anyone who has never seen Psycho?

Oh my lord! I had to cover my eyes for that entire scene. Perfect casting.

NESTOR IS MY FAVORITE! So glad he's working again. Loved him on LOST.

He's so dreamy!

BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

Okay my husband and I are already hooked I think.

But why did they set it in modern times?

From LATimes report (and also reported elsewhere):

The new drama from executive producers Carlton Cuse ("Lost") and Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights") is no period piece. It's a modern-day prequel to the Hitchcock standard -- and the decision to update the setting was a deliberate one.

"The idea of an homage was just not going to be engaging to me," Cuse told reporters Friday during a panel for the drama at the Television Critics Assn. media tour. "Making the fundamental decision to make it contemporary gave us the freedom to take these characters wherever we wanted. There's a certain amount of baggage that comes with taking on 'Psycho' ... making it contemporary made it become liberated from the original movie."

That pilot was a little underwhelming, but from what I've read, the show really picks up around episode three. So I'll stick with it! Vera Farmiga can do no wrong.

I liked the pilot very much, didn't think it was underwhelming. And such perfect casting using Carbonell! I freaked out a little by the resemblance.

Not a fan of explicit rape scenes enacted for entertainment purposes.

Me either.

And the rape scene notwithstanding, I thought this was mediocre bordering on terrible.

And I didn't like the way they used the neon and electric sound just like American Horror Story for the credits and before and after commericals. And it just makes no sense that a prequel to a movie set in a world of dial telephones takes place now. And I'm sick of these dream schools where everybody is so helpful for the new freaks in class.

I immediately thought AHS when the credits started, too.

I thought the writing was really clunky ("I'm sorry that dirtbag raped me"), I was distracted every time Highmore's real accent kept seeping in, and I thought even Farmiga was kind of blah.

For some reason I just found it weird that the older son's name was Dylan. I mean, I get that Norman is named after Norma, but still, Dylan and Norman?

As for the update, I found that weird, too. I knew it was going to updated, but half the time Norma's clothes look like they came straight out of the 50s. And when was all "No one is going to know there's a motel here" I was like, duh, the internet.

And then the creative whomever going on about how he isn't interested in an homage to the movie and yet, there's the iconic second floor railing and staircase. Also, is this world they live in modern in every sense but forensics?

Crossed with the Star Trek reboot only without a rip in the space/time continuum to actually help it make some sort of sense.

I laughed when my husband said, "Well, it's more interesting than Homeland."

Sorry but as one of the worlds biggest Hithcock fans (naming my company after one of his films) I thought it was very good. Yes it's a bit of a cop out that they set it today even though it's a prequel but once you get over that it's actually a pretty tense show and the 2 central performances are fabulous. I loved that one of the first shots was Norma getting out of a shower and the re creation of the house and Motel is perfect (well apart from the kitchen door has moved......told you I was a fan). And Namo I'm pretty sure nobody likes graphic rape scenes (which I really did not think this came close to Graphic) but it was needed for Norman's transition in to what he became. And also I'm
Pretty sure AHS are not the only ones to have used the sounds of electricity lol, the shows logo is the electric sign outside the Motel, some of these criticisms are funny, sorry. And Namo ( again) it seems very clear to me and it would appear many from what the press are saying that they are almost doing a Twin Peaks. It's set today but every so often scenes feel 50s etc inc costume or listening to a record player etc. I quite like that myself. And the show is very clearly tipping its hat to the film with many shots framing like the original or the sequels. Personally I was ready to hate this but have to admit it got my attention.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
