Jane, in the needless Gus Van Sant remake of "Psycho," Vince Vaughn was hired to behave like the sociopath he is in the role of Norman Bates. He is shown pleasuring himself while peeping at Anne Heche. Though her shower scene was probably something most Americans hoped was real, they didn't see the movie. In droves.

I didn't even remember anymale nudity in the opening of the remake--I assume it was similar to John Gavin (not being naked) getting dressed in the opening of the original. Hrmm usually things like that stick with me...

Now I'm confused. Norman jerks off to Marian Crane in Gus Van Sant's remake. I said I didn't remember male nudity in the opening of the smae movie, though, as CATS referenced here. I must have had Norman/Norma on my mind as I said he was jerking of while watching Norma (but that could still happened in the premake I suppose.)

Yes and that was in reply to a comment before about Sant's remake. (A comment that the film remake had bigger issues than just updating the time--which was in reply to a comment I made about how the Psycho remake already seemed to kinda show the story doesn't work as well in the present day--which WAS in relation to the Bates Motel talk about it being set now...)

The remake was fascinating (terrible) but fascinating, doing a shot for shot remake yet it could not be more different in tone and tension, and the casting was awful.
Yes Norman masturbates whilst watching Marion undress.....why?
Viggo Mortessen (SP?) is naked in the first scene in the hotel with Marion.....why?
Is that a goat in the shower scene? ....why?
The house is made of brick, and they built the new house in front of the old house.....why?
The only thing i liked, the costumes colors, they were so interesting and off kilter that, pattens that should not go together etc, yet it worked.

Ha no problem, I admit going back to it it was pretty confusing.
Songanddanceman--that's pretty much exactly what I meant about the *remake* to be clear
But exactly--I'm sure somewhere Van Sant discussed his reasoning, or maybe he didn't--but why do such a slavish remake and then throw in moments that weren't in the original and mainly made no connection with audiences (I forgot the goat...)
