BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

Wicked, are you talking about the syringe scene at the end of the first episode?

From what I've been told, that is addressed in the next episode.

BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

I honestly forgot how last episode ended, but I loved this episode. The guy playing Norma's other son is not great, I agree, but I seriously cannot get over Vera Farmiga as Norma, I don't know what it is, there's just something about her in it that I'm so intrigued by, I really love her in it so far. Freddie Highmore definitely reminded me even more of Tony Perkins this episode. Overall, I'm very much hooked.

Yeah, that and the body on fire at the end of this episode. Who was it? Who did it? What the #%*=??? I hope they address both cliffhangers in episode three!

Teasing your audience is one thing, but completely disregarding the cliffhangers you set up in a prior episode (and then ending that episode with ANOTHER cliffhanger) seems a bit sloppy to me. But maybe it'll all come together.

This setting people on fire thing is beyond bizzare. As the deputy said, it's all "an eye for an eye". I hope they address this next week.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

How many episodes have aired? I watched the first one, thought I was hooked, then forgot all about it. Is it worth catching up? Meh, never mind. I have too many shows as it is..

If you watched the pilot, you are only one episode behind. Episode two aired last night.

Can someone recap the ending of the first episode? For some reason I thought the cliffhanger had to do with Norman looking at the images from that notebook, I guess not.
I'm fine with them not talking about the people who were set on fire, that's why I like serialized dramas, I'm a sucker for drawn out mysteries, I feel it's something that you can do really well on TV. TWIN PEAKS was definitely like that and of course LOST is known for it, and those are in my top 5 favorite shows of all times, so I'll go along for the ride.
Numbers are in for last night, apparently it didn't suffer a 2nd week slump that characterizes most shows, which is great:
No second week slump for A&E’s Bates Motel. Against increased broadcast competition with the return of NBC’s Revolution, the Psycho prequel series drew 1.6 million adults 18-49 last night, even with its premiere last week. In adults 25-54, the series ticked up 6% (1.7 million vs. 1.6 million). Among total viewers, Bates Motel was down a notch (2.8 million vs. 3 million).

Basically the episode ended with choppy shots of someone chained to a pipe, being injected with some type of drug.

I just watched the 2nd episode and was very impressed with it. I think the body at the end isn't so much a cliffhanger as it is affirmation of the whole "eye for an eye" thing and a way for Norma to see that this really isn't some quaint little town she chose to live in.

^ I agree. I don't think anyone gets arrested in this town, they just get burned at the stake! The previews for next week's show look good. I'll be interested to see how they got from Norma hating her oldest son, to making out with him on the couch.

That's not her oldest son that she's making out with.

Oops! I watched it late last night on demand. At quick glance it did, but must have been the blonde deputy guy? Well, there goes part of the Oedipus angle!

So I guess in the premake, Norman's just a product of his environment?

I feel like towns with secrets are kinda played out.

Well i love a good town full of secrets story.

And considering it has had TWO episodes i don't really think we can say why Norman becomes who he became yet can we?

Also ratings for episode 2 held very strong which is good.

Why didn't they just call the cops after she killed the rapist?

It's uncanny how much Freddie H. is exactly how I would imagine young Norman would be. he's excellent.

He already killed his mother in FINDING NEERLAND. It's only natural he'd fit into that character.

You take that back!

I tried watching the second episode at work and AETV.com kept getting caught on a stupid ad for The Host. Instead of going to the next chapter, it would start over. Really annoying.

BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

OK after the second episode, I am done. Funny how they try so hard to make it seem almost like a period piece then they throw in swifters!Makes it seem more lazy then anything. I haven't seen a TV like the one in Norman's room since the late 60's or the hi-fi. Why just not keep it in the period
The writing is horrible. When they find the guys truck in the morning, the Sheriff tells Norma tht the guy hasn't been seen in days, that people have been wondering where he is. That night when she mentions to him that he is missing the Sheriff says,"I didn't say that." Oh yes you did honey, earlier that day, 5 minutes ago in screen time. Once I saw the stuffedanimals in the shop I knew that this show jumped the shark for me. I will remember Hitchcock's classic fondly and not waste my time.

BATES MOTEL Premieres Tonight

That is EXACTLY what my husband and I yelled at the TV when the sheriff said that! And we also yelled "Yes it IS weird that your undressing in front of your kid!"

The semi-period props are also driving me crazy.

The fridge?! Please.

And it's a wonder Norman doesn't get his ass kicked in school for those grandpa sweaters he wears...

About the period props, think they explained in first episode dialogue that all that stuff was left over from previous owners.

I can see how the mish-mash of old and modern would be disconcerting to some viewers and put them off. I actually like it. Neither view is right or wrong, just different strokes for different folks.

Sheriff's remark - I think he knew darn well what he'd said but was making a lame attempt to trip Norma up. As if. He then warns her to not get on his bad side when really she could say the same to him (and probably was thinking it).

Yea, I heard that explanation, but it doesn't explain the period clothes she's always wearing.

And this last week, the older son asked how she was able to afford a "new car". The car she's driving it an antique. While it may be new to her, it is certainly not a new car.
