Finally, on a more reflective note, here's a beautiful article on the tranformative power of the film, written by an openly gay American actor currently residing in the UK:

Ready girls? Okay!
Money, money
That's the way
To validate
Our being gay
Go Brokeback
Go-o-o-o-o Brokeback!
WOOOOOO!
I knew it had to be a mainstream success when my mom got four of my aunts and my grandmother to go see it with her last weekend.
*claps*
This makes me happy.
My mom called just to ask what I thought of it. I told her I didn't like it, but she should see it anyway. It's the perfect movie for straight people to feel good about how open minded they are.
HOWEVER, were I single, I'd tell her to stay away...all I need is the replay from 10 years ago:
"Being gay seems to be such a lonely life!"
Very, very, cool. And not because as Namo and his witty sarcasm would like us to believe. I am happy because it is a beautiful film that richly deserves all its success.
You just quoted Opposite Of Sex, didn't you?
LOL! Robbie, you're not wrong, they all did come home feeling very proud of themelves.

NAILED it! Just like the audiences who would give Falsettos a standing ovation and walk out of the theater having done their bit for AIDS.
And isn't that what it's all about? Straight Pride!

And feeling supported by their going to see a movie!
But, all of them said it was a very well-made film and none of them made comments about being uncomfortable or grossed out. So, I still say it's helping to move this country in the right direction.
except for those average americans.
I'm sorry...but I love being an above-average American!

I feel personally embraced and a bit safer and more loved because your relatives saw Brokeback Mountain.
No, Namo, you they would hate!
I loved Bill Finn's writing in Falsettos:
"Four Jews in a room bitching."
"My father's a homo."
"The lesbians next door."
"We're sitting here watching Jewish boys who cannot play baseball play baseball."
What's not to like?

I would MAKE THEM LOVE ME! You're not the only shameless one.
But, like Bonnie Raitt, you can't make them love you if they don't.
And SHE'S not a lesbian? Her and Melissa E. in BM would have been HOT!
The sad part is that my grandmother would love him, but she's always had a thing for gay men.
I edited just in case.

You're allowed to say fag hag. As long as you acknowledge it's a misogynist construct. And used with love.
Good to know, and of course it's said with love.
That's great that it is still doing so well---and all the big awards are yet to come.

I'm starting a petition to get Congress to see Brokeback Mountain en masse!
I'd love to see the First Cowboy's face during the film. I wonder if he and Laura have a screening planned.
