Sue - it is fair if Allie, the last person booted, to come back.

Namo - but this forum is only mock reality. You can choose what you don't want.

Like this competition is mock-Idol.

Bso, Allie was not the last one booted, but I don't think anyone should "come back"

Namo has raised very legitimate concerns.
His last point is also why I never questioned Jerby (or anyone else) in there desire to leave. If it is not fun, don't do it. If it becomes less than desireable stop.

I know it would not have been fun for me.
Which was one reason I tried to come in and give people support, but the same even handed support I might give anything else.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Namo, I don't honestly know if your worst fears were realized. Just because Jerby reacted the way he did, does not mean that all of the contestants have done so.

Who the f**k were/are Tiff, Cam and Stephen? They are people who happen to love and have some background in musical theater and made a committment to try and be fair and impartial judges of an ongoing talent show. I don't think they ever represented themselves to be any more than that. If you do not want to be judged by them, or do not feel they have the background or training to judge your performance, then you should not have participated to begin with. Perhaps, in hindsight, those who have professional experience should not have been allowed to participate in the first place.

I just find this whole argument circular, and no one is going to change their mind.

But to be honest Tiff, and you know I love you... I don't know whether that's meant mockingly or sincerely.

In all seriousness, I've flogged to death what my intentions were as an organizer and a judge. Broken record, I've raped the heck out of too many cliched phrases for it to have any meaning anymore. And me saying it's been hard on the judges isn't to diminish the obvious effort that time that goes into it for the contestants. It's just my personal perspective, and to show people that it's not like I would do this with the expectation of glory or, worst of all, that I wanted to create tension or "hurt feelings" (ugh, overused) on this board. (Because we don't have enough of that!)

We'll have to agree to disagree (I'm really spewing the cliches like it's my job) on Stephen and my critiques to jrb. You say yourself you understand that the gut reaction may not be the rational one. But who am I? I'm someone who's met jrb personally, knows him to be a charismatic and nice guy, and want to see him do well, not just on the contest, but in his performing career. So if I want more, it's not just me as a judge, or me as a consumer. It's me as a supporter, who knows he can top himself.

Okay, well I'm sort of catching up with everything that has been happening around these parts. I would just like to say the original reason I did BWW Idol was because I thought it would be a fun experience, and a good chance for people to hear me. I also wanted to get feedback be it negative or positive. I did accomplish this and got many compliments and things I could work on.The reason I quit was because it's my senior year of high school and I had college auditions and everything was just crazy. I did not quit because of the judges, criticisms, or the dynamics of the competition. Overall it was a fun experience. I didn't always get praise, but I always took the criticism well because I knew it was coming from a good place.

Jeez guys, why can't you ever save the drama for when I'm around? Kidding.

I'm sorry to see that it has come to this, but, like others, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. When people are unequally invested in something like this, conflict is bound to ensue. Some people did this just for a hoot - some people did it because they wanted honest criticism, everyone has their reasons. But when everyone gets treated the same way, the reactions are going to be different. This is by no means the first time the board has seen an entire gamut of emotional responses to one action/statement - it's all a matter of what people bring to the table. It just usually doesn't manifest itself until someone gets upset.

Personally, I joined the contest for fun. I used to sing all the time, but (like my original bio explained) don't do it so much anymore because of college. I also did it, like I believe Caitie said, to make friends and get to know people here a little bit better. I'd been on the boards for a while, but didn't really feel like I knew anyone too well. Now I can honestly say that I'm very close with a lot more people here, and have BWW Idol to thank for that.

When I dropped out, it was because my high school theater director had died and I had to go home for the funeral, and wouldn't have been able to submit a new clip in time. I had been contemplating dropping out anyway, since my thesis due date was approaching, so it ended up being for the best.

I can't speak for any of the other contestants (or anyone else, for that matter), but I never viewed this as anything more than a fun thing to try out, an opportunity to get to know people, hear how they sing, get some feedback on my own singing, and basically just have fun.

I'm not going to say "get over it, it's just a message board" or "you guys have way too much free time" or anything like that because, like I've said, people are very different when it comes to how much they invest in something like this. So it's not my place to question their reactions. But I will say that I hope people can take a step back and recognize this for what it really is, and nothing more.

I applaud Tiff and the other judges for sticking through this, using their own time to make it as official and thorough as possible, and doing their best to keep it fun and light-hearted. I've thoroughly enjoyed myself, and hope that some kind of solution can be found to keep this going, for those who want it to.

If any of this didn't make sense (which is very likely), my apologies - I just finished college, my brain has officially checked out round 13 - strawberry shortcake tosses mrs. beasley's salad under the table

"Who the f**k were/are Tiff, Cam and Stephen?"

As I explained YWIW, that was my gut initial response.

"I'm someone who's met jrb personally, knows him to be a charismatic and nice guy, and want to see him do well, not just on the contest, but in his performing career. So if I want more, it's not just me as a judge, or me as a consumer. It's me as a supporter, who knows he can top himself."

And Tiff, seriously, I was not being mocking. And I am not just being a harridan about this, but what on earth is in it for JRB to have to listen to that from you in a public forum where ANYBODY can read it? I wonder if it finally hit him that this "fun" little contest was ultimately going to give him nothing, for a hell of a lot of work. "Winner of Unofficial Amateur BWW Idol Contest" isn't much of a resume burnisher.

But reading these pages just confirms -- for me -- my hunch that this whole thing was a very bad idea, that the bad taste it gave me in the beginning hasn't diminished. But again, maybe that's just me.

Namo - point taken.

And, I may disagree with you on this issue, but you have been consistent with your concerns and voiced them from day one. I can also see how Tiff could view much of what has been posted as a personal attack on her, which I am sure was not anyones intent, but is how many of the posts have been perceived.

So, we will just have to agree to disagree. I truly hope that this thread can return to something far more constructive and positive, especially for those who have taken the time and effort to record their songs and share their voices.

There's nothing more in it for jrb to get that from me in a public forum, anymore than it would be for him to listen to that from anyone else. But I do think that since he should (I hope) know that I would say those things with the best intentions and not in the spirit of being a bitch, it should carry more weight than the anonymous person who compliments everyone or flames everyone. (And, JFTR, me saying "I want more" was a minute portion of what was another glowing review. And he wasn't thinking "Who the hell is she to tell me I'm great?" then! And this isn't a suck-up tactic. I'm just saying that if he took my few criticisms personally, then he's clearly missed all the good things I sincerely wrote.)

And I believe his argument isn't "who are you to voice these opinions" anyway - he says himself he signed up to get audience feedback, not professional feedback. And we can and did all give him that. His concern was that we weren't providing themes that could achieve what we were asking of him, and he didn't understand why we'd want more of him if he was already doing well. And those are problems I would consider in retrospect. And if he quit because it hit him that this contest and the hard work wasn't going to give him any material rewards, then that's fine, but it's nothing that hasn't been obvious from the start.

And thanks for not being mocking. I've taken some of the posts on here personally because of their tone, but I've got a thicker skin when it comes to civil criticism. I don't think I've dodged any questions, but I can only answer from my point of view, and not from the contestants'. I can't change the bad taste in your mouth (and I won't insert a Papa joke), but I would still say that jrb's in the minority of people who've been hurt or whatnot from this competition. I'm glad to see someone like Nerd, who left in an earlier round, pipe up and be honest with her intentions, and I'm glad to see it hasn't scarred her. And I appreciate JAC and Diva's comments a lot as well. So really, it hasn't all been bad.

Wheatgrass?

And Sueleen, we won't be bringing anyone back, a) because if there's one thing I'm in full agreement with Namo on, it's that this has run on a long time. (Partially because schedules meant we couldn't stick to a consistent format, and partially because I got a lot of suggestions on themes people wanted to try, so I had to account for that.); b) because jrb quitting means voting is moot, and we're down to the three finalists we need for the last two rounds.

I will tell ya though, it would be a gas if Rath's comeback to the board was as a a finalist for Idol.

I'm not touching that, but suffice to say, Rath's first appearance back, if she does decide to return, won't be as a BWW Idol finalist. And Link won't be back either. We don't need any more rounds. Two is enough.

And with that, I'm off. Time to enjoy the sun while it lasts before the Vancouver rain comes back.

Did I participate in this little competition because I believed that I would become the most popular person on the message board? Did I think that some higher up would hear me sing and fly me to NYC and put me in their show? Did I want to be praised and told that I was the best singer?

The answer to all these and more is a resounding NO!!

As I have stated on the couple of threads about bww idol and the negativity towards it, it is because I thought it would be fun and something new to do? And also like I said before, what's the difference between what is said in this competition and what is said everyday outside of this thread? *Almost* nothing. Yes, in this thread we talk about people's voices which hits really close to home . . . trust me, I know! But, a lot of what is said on the off topic and message board is very hurtful and hits close to home as well--talking about people's choice in music, actors, and sometimes their mentality is brought into as well. A few posters even believe that it is fun to torture people until it gets to the point where they leave and never come back, which has happened a lot lately.

What I am saying is, we have a competition here that was started in the name of fun and a way for some of us to show what we have since the majority of us don't have a choice to do shows and so on. I have also met many people in this competition that I have never really talked to before and I have come to respect and love each and every one of them. Am I glad that I made it this far? Yes. But, I would be happy for anyone of these AMAZING, TALENTED people on this message board to have made it this far and I would have been cheering them on even if I got kicked off earlier in the competition. I am grateful that I am surrounded by these wonderful people both in the competition as well as on the bww.com message boards and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Do I get frustrated about the time restraints to learn these songs, record them, go to work, spend time with my wife, live life outside of bww.com? YES!!!! But, when I signed up for the competition I knew what I was getting into . . . the good AND the bad. And to all the judges that we have had so far, I say thank you for sticking with us and taking time out of your schedule to do this. **BIG HUGS**

It is sad to see Jerby go and I will miss hearing his voice everyweek because dude, you were my favorite and you knew that since the beginning. You have an amazing instrument and I thank you for letting us experience it these many weeks. Love ya, man and even if you aren't in this competition anymore, you are still my favorite. round 13 - strawberry shortcake tosses mrs. beasley's salad under the table
