I don't care what anyone says. I am seeing this film!
"The Other Boleyn Girl"
This movie looks silly. I still don't think Hollywood quite knows what to do with Bana. If you haven't seen the Australian movie CHOPPER, you just haven't seen the guy act.
"I still don't think Hollywood quite knows what to do with Bana."
I know what to do with him.
Ah frivality.
I loved Bana in "Munich", and wish he was given more to do. It Seems to me that he is the same "type" as Viggo Mortensen, and when given the choice, The studios choose Mortensen.
I can picture Bana doing wonderfully as Aragon, as well as the main character in "A History of Violence"
Seriously, guys: Check out CHOPPER. Its right up there with Lily Taylor in I SHOT ANDY WARHOL and Charlize Theron in MONSTER as one of the great transformative performances of recent memory.
He certainly has untapped reserves of talent...
Oh, I think I could figure out how to tap them...

In all seriousness Borstalboy is right, Chopper is such an incredible film and Bana is a truly gifted actor. I loved him in Munich and he was the only reason Troy was bearable (that and seeing Orlando Bloom get his ass whopped by Brandon Gleason, that was pretty entertaining ).
bana's a tremendous actor and i really like his work. he was effin' brilliant in chopper and what a freakin' disturbing flick that, no? he had a small-ish but pivotal role in blackhawk down that really was memorable, even in a huge ensemble of gargantuan talent like that. hulk was a mess but it wasn't his fault. i mean who thought this: "hey let's have ang lee direct a comic book movie about a 15 foot tall green monster?" "yeah, yeah that's a great idea!!" i thought he was great in munich and really saw the soul of a nation in his eyes during that movie. i haven't seen lucky you yet, but i want to despite the savaging it got from the critics.
I enjoyed the book. I am sure they will mess up the movie.
I used to love her books...until I read The Boleyn Inheritance, and then I re-read her other books that I used to love and found that only about 3/all of them were actually good. The Other Boleyn Girl was not one of them. I love the idea of Natalie Portman as Anne, though.
As for Eric as Henry...I remember when the announcement was made a while ago, I heard a bunch of people saying how he simply doesn't look like Henry and he's much too fit, blah blah blah...I dunno...The Other Boleyn is not tremendously historically accurate anyway, and in THE TUDORS, which is REALLY not historically accurate, Henry is played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who I think does a great job. I'm not sure how I like Bana as Henry but we will see.
I'll admit that I was pretty suprised about him being cast as Henry. When I think of the character Bana's not the first guy to come to mind, but everyone should get a chance you know?
Papa I can't believe I forgot about Black Hawk Down! That was such a powerful ensemble piece and he was phenomenal. Has anyone seen 'Lucky You' yet?

There is a nervous twitch going off due to the colour of Henry's hair. Again.
Gosh, I am such a dweeb.

I find it hard to believe that Henry VIII was ever as hot as Eric Bana, but that's movies for you.
Borstal, can you tell us more about CHOPPER? I don't know anything about it.
Bana only has to stand there...the Hell with acting, the man is beautiful
have any of you actually read about Henry, seen images from his younger years???
He and Francis of France were considered the two most magnificent specimens of manhood when they were young. Both being described as tall, muscular and "handsome of face"
Bana is excellent for the role (lookswise)
In the Tudors, Jonathan was excellent in the role, but he in no way, shape, or form resembled Henry at all. Even as a teen, Henry was not that thin
From Netflix:
Eric Bana throws more than a few body parts on the barbie -- figuratively speaking, at least -- in this shocking and humorous film about Australia's most notorious convict, Mark Read. Out to rule the cell block and make a name for himself, Read fused fact and fiction into the pulp of nine best-selling books. In the process, he became an iconoclastic antihero with a folkloric rep bigger than Billy the Kid's!
Bana was Mark Read's choice to play him.
Borstalboy out of curiosity have you read any of Mark Read's books?
"In the Tudors, Jonathan was excellent in the role, but he in no way, shape, or form resembled Henry at all. Even as a teen, Henry was not that thin"
Well that's true. But regardless of hair color and thin or muscular, at the time where he began his relationship with Anne Boleyn, wasn't he already starting to become MUCH less physicall fit? I can never be sure because every book I read says different things.
There are certain actors who are just never going to have the kind of success that some have for whatever reason (the movies they choose, mainstream audiences just don't connect with them, etc), and that's okay.
Please. This is an Elizabethan soap opera. It's not "Elizabeth."
If they'd cast it in the 1950s, it would star Cary Grant, Lana Turner and Elizabeth Taylor.
It's a juicy "popcorn movie."
