Does anyone else loathe this show? I just don't get it's popularity or why it wins so many Emmy's. I've tried to give it a change, being that it is on tv about 10 times a day, but I rarely crack a smile when watching.
You've just described my reaction to WILL AND GRACE. I find television comedies to be fairly unfunny, though.
Raymond bored me...Will and Grace bored me after two shows.

Never thought Raymond was funny -- at all. And Will & Grace stopped being funny about 5 years ago when it turned into the gay Love Boat and became all about celebrity cameos.
Could never see this show's allure.
LOL Margo. It is totally the gay Love Boat.
The only part about WILL AND GRACE that makes me laugh are some of Karen's lines - but that's about it.
I also hate RAYMOND...it's completely unfunny.
See that's my point. I dont' know anyone who likes it! I get so confused by the amounts of awards it recieves. I think Patricia Heaton is what of the unfunniest people around.
Raymond's success is due mainly to Doris Roberts' character. I'm glad they ended the show, it's not as funny as it used to be.
Arrested Development should have won this year.

Yeah, what is the deal with Patricia Heaton? She always has this bitter and nasty expression on her face -- she's the antithesis of "funny." Why on earth has that woman won awards for ..... well, anything?
i hate this show--and to add insult to injury--they always show HOURS of it on american airlines domestic flights. there is no escape.
Patricia Heaton is perfect as Ray's wife.
Do you east coasters have the grocery store "Albertsons"?
Anyways, here in the West Coast, Heaton is in their tv ads, and they play them all the time, on every channel. They are so unfunny.

Peter Boyle, people?!
Really? No one finds him unbelievably funny?!
As far as Will and Grace goes, yes it is outgrowing itself...but, I am certain history will prove it to be one of the most important sitcoms of its era. It is the only show that normalizes a gay identity -- which is an essential part of social change.
I tried to like Everybody Loves Raymond.
But I just don't get it.
Will and Grace used to be some of the best writing on television.
I don't know when it started going downhill, but I think it was somewhere around the appearance of Leo.
and may I add that Albertson's SUCKS, and is owned by a very conservative corporation in Idaho. I hate Albertsons, but I hate Stater Bros more.
When Albertson's merged with Lucky, they had 3 months of this "marriage" crap between the two stores........really repulsive

Generally, shows with laugh tracks make me want to break things. Good thing I don't really watch TV.
I *heart* Raymond. One of the best casts around.
Love Raymond...I think it has been consistently funny thru it's 9 years....and Patty Heaton is my favorite.
Will and Grace was so funny in the beginning, but they painted themselves into a corner. Whenever the lead characters had a love interest, it wasnt as funny...and the premise got stale. This happens to SO many great shows and they know it and are going off the air.
I also greatly appreciate the taking of the baton from Ellen. I think it was so important that the character of Will be in everyone's living room.
never watched Raymond but I do want to say that W&G only got stale when Will had a love interest, which is why they delayed it happening for so long. Woody Harrelson was a hoot on the show and I was sorry to see him go.
Never watched Raymond. Just no interest...
Stopped watching W&G after the second season.

The problem with Will and Grace is that all the humor is character-based (not situational)...which just means that the joke can only go on for so long...Jack can only be VERY gay for so long, Karen can only be drunk for so long, etc.
If it were closer to Cheers (which had both situational humor AND character-based humor) it'd have a few more years left. Love interests and cameos are the only way to keep it funny and watchable.
I, too, am from an Italian family (at least in part) and TRIED to watch this show. Not a moment of it was funny to me.
Patricia Heaton is simply unpleasant. Shrewish. Hateful.
that's assuming it is watchable.......which it's not. I am tired of a drunk Karen, and a gay character which is the gay stereotype for every homophobe in the country.
Most gay men I know, or have known in my life are/were NOT like Jack........sadly America thinks we all are. Well, not all of America, but the ones that apparently vote down initiatives that grant equal rights to ALL Americans.....
Did anyone see Heaton last night at the Emmy's. Ellen made a joke a comment about "needing laughter in times of tragedy" and they flashed to the audience clapping, and Heaton sat there with her arms crossed with a big scowl on her face.
So it's okay to accept awards in times of tragedy, but not try to be funny?
