Gabourey Sidibe will host an upcoming episode of "Saturday Night Live." I'm looking forward to this. It'll be great to see her do some comedy after doing such a serious dramatic movie.

VEEEEEEERY smart career choice for her. She's said numerous times how she wants to do comedy and this is the perfect way to get a jump start on that.
This thrills the hell out of me!
Great...Loved her in Precious. The scene where she said, "Nobody Loves Me" had me crying like a big baby...
Yay! She has been so funny on just about every interview I have seen with her! Wonder if they'll do a Howard Stern take-off?

I hope they have her play Kirstie Alley.
Very pleased to hear about this.
She's pretty funny naturally and scripted:

Howard Stern was right about her. Being PC will only take you so far. If she had a sense of humor she would go on the Stern show to talk about what he said.
And what he said was 100% correct.
Is that what they're saying on SFN?

It's funny that somebody would come into a thread about somebody getting a job to say that the person who said the person who got the gig would never work is right.
God, I love her.
Howard Stern was 100% correct? Really?
Funny, seeing how she's already finished another film and has an upcoming TV series.
But who cares about facts?
Holy crap, I'm thrilled at this news! She was hilarious in her interviews on Conan and Fallon. I can't wait to see her tackle some good ol' sketch comedy!
This makes me so happy! I already thought Sidibe gave us a wonderful performance in Precious, but it's only more impressive in contrast with her usual bubbly self. And it's SNL's third Oscar nominee of the season. As for that Howard Stern comment, the only thing he was right about is her being a fat black woman. Everything else is just ridiculous?
My favorite comment was what Whoopi Goldberg said about the issue. There was a time when everyone said the exact same thing about her. There were no normal roles that seemed to fit someone like Whoopi. Yet look at how much work she has gotten since then, either with things written with her in mind or by people just looking past their idea of what the role requires (Sister Act specifically, having been written for Bette Midler).
What I really hate, however, is the gender double standard. No one says anything about Chris Farley, Jim Belushi, Kevin James, John Goodman, etc. being large actors. Yet for young girl nominated for Best Actress not looking like she's been starving for the last few weeks is somehow forbidden. It's bull.

Not to mention she dated one of the hottest men alive, well in my opinion anyways, Frank Langella. If you've seen him in The Twelve Chairs and Diary of a Mad Housewife, you'd know what I'm talking about. I mean seriously, that man is the definition of tall, dark, and handsome!

You just know there's going to be a Precious satire with Kenan as Mo'Nique.
She could play sherri Shepard. She could play Condolezza Rice, in retirement. She could play Oprah. She could play Whitney Houston (that might be truly spot-on). I'll go out on un-PC limb, albeit in a PC way, and say I bet she could pay homage to the great Hattie McDaniel. They could deconstruct GWTW with one of the great commedienes on the show, and give Miss Scarlett's doppleganger some overdue revisionist insight. Why not?
(And before everyone yells, remember the book that came out circa 2000, written by an African American author, who made the black characters in GWTW the central ones, and the O'Haras and the Wilkes the supporting players? That's the idea I'd embrace -- Scarlett as supporting Mammy.)

The Wind Done Gone, thank you Phyllis. That's the tone, plus, uh, a lot of comedy, that could work.
Oh God...I remember working on IP issues when that whole lawsuit was going on! Still haven't read it.
Back on topic...Love me som Sidibe. I think she's going to have a fantastic career.

I think so, too. I think she's great. I don't agree that she won't have a career, but I don't really know that it's fair to connect her to people like John Belushi. A) Standards simply ARE different for men and women in Hollywood and a bigger girl is going to have more trouble finding work than a big guy. and B) She's a lot heavier than all those guys people keep invoking. Also, a couple of them are dead (and their weight probably contributed to that). I guess I don't understand that tack for defending her.
I know this is kinda c*nty to say so, but I do think she needs to lose some weight. Not for aesthetics, but for health. It worked for her in PRECIOUS, but I think, in general, getting your body into healthier shape can only benefit, well...everyone.
I say this as someone who is in Zach Galifianikis mode right now. But I'd much rather get to current Seth Rogen. Both for my career and my health.
Yeah, the health component cannot be dismissed. The biggest fear for a young woman is diabetes. She need not lose herself, just enough wait to keep her body chemistry in balance. Morbid obesity has nothing to do with the bias against big women.
