A good film?

Isn't Raquel Welch in it?

Yes, as well as Mae West and Rex Reed. One can at least give them credit for some of the campiest casting in cinema history.

It has been featured in many "Worst Movies Ever Made" books and lists.
the movie had me p*ssing in my pants....a friend of a friend was always talking about it and a particular scene where a football jock gets raped by myra (raquel welch) with a strap-on! so we rented it on dvd. someone mustve been on acid when they made this. even farrah fawcett is in it.
I rented it, and did not really enjoy it. But have never really been a fan of Raquel Welch. Although there is one scene in that film that must be seen to be believed...
In a good way or a bad way?
it depends on your point of view...the scene where raquel is behind this football jock and "raping" him caught me off guard i was like WTF..i mean she was really "going to town"...but then i started laughing my @ss off cuz this was raquel welch...u gotta see it for yourself.
I wonder how the great Miss Channing feels about this film.

Does anyone else have The Myra Breckinridge Cookbook? It was co-written by Vidal's partner Howard Austen and published in 1970. The cover art features a still from Island in the Sun of Joan Collins consuming a large banana. It's actually a serious cookbook with real recipes, but also lots of jokes and great Hollywood pictures. The recipe for Cumin Covered Coq begins "The French sometimes use chicken."
The book is dated but uproarious! The movie I couldn't sit all the way through....it draaaaaags. Mae West--apparently on a visit from Mme. Tussaud's--sings "Hard To Handle". Alot of the ideas from the film were recycled in the HBO sitcom "Dream On". Oh, and Rex Reed acts! (sort of, the man literally oozes contempt)

An amazing carwreck of a film -- one of the strangest and campiest film ever made. The director (and half the cast) had to be on drugs making it. Mae West, Rex Reed (as a transsexual), John Huston, Farah Fawcett, Raquel, John Carradine, George Furth ..... none of it makes any sense, but it's entertaining for the most part and utter nonsense (watch it as a double feature with Mae West's "Sextette" -- co-starring Timothy Dalton singing "Love Will Keep It Together" as a duet with West, Ringo Starr, Dom Deluise, Regis Philbin, Tony Curtis -- the two together will make you feel stoned).
Bump.
is it any good? well, i heard rex reed gave it a good review
Easily one of the worst films ever made. And that has nothing to do with Raquel Welch!

Dreadful! Except for the opening number - In that, Welch shows herself to have a considerable knowledge of camp and what appeared to be a good sense of humour! It was never really exploited, everything else was!
She was making movies at one of the worst times to be an actress so her choices must have been limited - 20 years later she would have been Sharon Stone - a sex tart who lands a defining role... No matter what, Stone will always have CASINO (and an Oscar nomination)to fall back on if anyone questions her abilities..
I love Raquel Welch in "Kansas City Bomber".

Actually, a very under-rated performance in a damn good B movie!
She's also holds her own in Fuzz - all she needed was a good director and she was quite decent! and she chews everything in her path in THE THREE MUSKETEERS!

Raquel's commentary on the DVD is worth listening to. She has some funny stories about her clashes with Mae.
Listening to her commentary is the only way to watch it.
Raquel is actually a surprisingly intelligent woman.
I happen to love this book--and much of Gore Vidal's fiction and essaays. The movie is a great, terrible movie. I saw it when I was a teenager around the same time I saw Queen of Outer Space with Zsa-Zsa Gabor, and the two movies are oddly intertwined in my memory.
I've always said that Myra makes a good triple feature with Mandingo and Lipstick.
Was watching Johnny Weir and Myra came to mind.
Don't ask why.
Glebb, it is worth seeing once.
